YCP MSOC GK Session followed by work with the back four defenders and GKs.
- GK work - focus on dealing with cutbacks
- Backline work - focus on when to drop and how to play GK to keep possession -- AWAY, KEEPER, HOME
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Footwork through cones, Set, Receive volley
GK then rolls the ball (slowly) back to server
GK works out wide, then comes back deep to middle -- simulates cut back
Server strikes ball one time for GK to handle (can change type of service as necessary)
(really likes this training idea / concept)
CPs: clean footwork, create depth in cutback, be on balance, quick then slow
Note: Train the fine line of tremendous action and no action (quick AND calm)

Server on endline with supply of balls
Server near penalty spot with four balls lined up
Endline server passes to mini goal, as ball passes then GK adjusts positioning inside goal for first time shot
Penalty spot server strikes ball for shot
Play is live until held, out of play, or goal scored
Variations - servers play to each other instead of stationary targets, different types of service (bouncing, flighted, tossed), add deflection element (water bottles) to add to the challenge
CPs: Clean footwork, aggressive back set, react to the shot, be brave and defend the goal, one touch = stood / two+ touches = close

Red Team = Backline + 6 and 8 + GK
Blue Team = Target + LW + RW + 8 and 10
Blue Team passing the ball so that Red Team can shape defensively.
Once Blue Team passes back to Coach, Coach punts ball over top or plays through Red Team backline.
Red Team drops to recover and either clears or looks to gain and maintain possession (typically through GK)
- GK clearly communicates - AWAY (clear the ball as a defender), KEEPER (GK getting ball on own), HOME (defender plays ball to GK's feet -- play outside of goal mouth
Blue Team provides increasing level of pressure.
Once Red Team has possession, they look to play out to mini-goals at midfield
If Blue Team regains possession, they look to either 1) go to goal immediately or 2) restart exercise
CPs: What are cues to drop as a backline? (negative pass to wide open player, attacker with ball gets head down, body positioning of player on ball and front line players), backline gets side on to sprint to drop (no backpeddle), recognize moments to play GK and when to clear.
