This dribbling session is created to help introduce the players to the fundamentals of dribbling by creating a fun, relaxed and structured session so that they are learning while playing.
1 hour session
Consists of ; warm up, technical practice, fun game, game then cool down.

60 yds x 40 yds
Spread out 8 cones for players to use as defenders when dribbling.
-Every player gets a ball and starts dribbling within the marked area.
-The cones are to be treated as defenders.
-Every 60 seconds coach will instruct players to perform a skill move.
Coach demonstrates after each minute
1) Step over
2) Petrov drag back
3) Ronaldo chop
4) Zidane turn
5) McGeady turn
6) Players show any skill they choose
Coaching Points
- Soft touches/ close control
- Each skill different coaching points
-Coach demonstrate each technique
-Head up, scan for space
-Soft touches
-Take time getting technique right
-Weight balanced right over the ball.
Progression- Add passive defenders where the cones are.
-Add active defenders
Adaptions- Choose easier skill moves to learn if too hard

Stuck in the mud( Fun dribbling game)
2 minute games or restart when all players are stuck in mud
10 Minutes overall.
Set Up: 30x20 yards Grid
6 dribblers, 2 Chasers(defenders).
Equipment- 9 red bibs(dribblers), 3 blue bibs(chasers)
-If turn to be defender the 2 players wear blue bibs on top.
- As many cones needed to set out an area of 30 yards by 20 yards.
-9 balls (One ball each dribbler)
Game Rules - Chasers looking to tackle the dribblers
- If they manage to get the ball off of the dribbler they must freeze and yell HELP I'M STUCK IN THE MUD with her hands in the air and legs open.
-Other players must dribble the ball through the players legs who are stuck in the mud to free them.
- Play for 2 minute or until all players are stuck, whichever comes first.
- If chasers tackle all players before the two minutes is up, they win.
- If runners are unstuck at the end of the game, they win a point.
- Rotate chasers after each game.
If coach sees a good piece of skill and/or technique, he/she will award a point as a reward.
Whoever has the most points at the end of the last game is the winner.
Coaching Points:
Encourage players to;
-Scan for players
-Look to find space.
-Communicate with team-mates
-Smaller touches
-Change direction quickly
-Burst of pace into space.
-Body positioning and shield the ball
-Encourage flair/skill moves

3v3 Small Sided Games
3 x 3 minute games
Equipment-
4 sets of 3 different coloured bibs(12 players)
30 yds x 20 yds each game
Coaching Points
Attackers-
-Head up
-Close control, soft touches.
-Balance over the ball.
-Use technique/skill
-Look for space
-Good communication with team mates
Defenders- Close down the space to your opponent quickly
-Keep goal side
- Don't dive in
Progressions-
-Must beat your opponent by performing at least one of the turns learned in the warm up
- Award 2 points(goals) for a successful dribble
-Limit the amount of touches allowed, for example 5 touches max.
Adaptions- Even teams up if too one sided

Have players stretch their hamstrings, gastrocnemius and quads.
Touch toes, left side hold for 30 seconds then right side same.
Feet face forward, knees together, bend left knee while straightening right leg then alternate sides, holding each one by 30 seconds.
With right arm behind back, grab right leg. Try keep knees together, back straight and push hips out towards front, hold for 30 seconds then switch to left side.

Every 60 seconds coach will instruct players to dribble using one of the following touches:
Coach demonstrates each one during rest period.
1) Inside of the foot
2) Outside of the foot
3) Outside/Inside
4) Foot rolls
Coaching Points
-Soft touches for close control,
-Head up/ scan to see where players and cones are
-Look for space
-Burst of pace after skill into space
-Weight balanced right over the ball.
