SSG
Players (NO GK) begin just playing a game as normal for 1.30min Inside the Yellow Area and can Only Score inside the Marked Area 20 x 5
Coach now includes a progression that each team cant shoot until they have played 5 passes between them
After a further 2mins the coach places a few gates within the pitch with flats and now challenges the players to pass through a gate to a team mate for an extra point whilst continuing the 5 passes before a shot
The next progression is 1 player from each team is allowed in the shaded channel and if someone manages a 1,2 with this player the team get a point
The final progression is yellow cones are removed so there is no channel and we are playing to the white cones with the red corners still in place, team will score 2 points if a player recieves a pass whilst inside either of the corner zones at the end you are attacking
Progression / Regressions / Challanges
Is Area size to Big? Or too small Adjust accordling
Or Challange Players To make area to small
Challange Individuals to 1 Touch
Limit Touches if Players are comfatable at passing to 3 then 2 touch ( Or If one team perform better than the other)
Increase Num of Passes before Shooting to 7

SPECIFIC Out of possession Switch of play
Welsh Principles
Defend the Switch of Play :Understand when and how to stop a switch of play based on the pressure applied by the defending team
Show away from goal - Stop switch of play - protect the spaces between the lines.
Framing: Defending the switch of play
Focus: understand when and how to stop the switch of play based on the pressure applied by the defending team
Objectives: Force Wide, pressure on the ball, keep play predictable, leave furthest player.

KEY COACHING POINTS –
Out of possession (Coached):
Force direction of play
Defend narrow
Leave the furthest player/s
Stop the switch
In possession (Managed):
Playthrough, around or over the opposition
Ball speed
Weight of pass
Specific
Use of width and depth
Direction of pass
Movement to receive
Challenges, Targets and Conditions:
The conditions are full width and up to the mini goals. The targets for the blues are the wide zones either side of the
practice and the mini fixed goal. The challenges are the blue team MUST switch play before scoring.
The red team out of possession MUST fill 2 out of the three zones when defending leaving the furthest player/s. The reds are also
challenged with scoring from a counter attack by breaking lines.

FAW 'Principles of play
Working with the Red team and managing the Blue team
Red Team
Attacking/In Possession: Make the pitch big, who can switch?, Speed of the switch, Maintain width,
Blue team - Defending/Out of Possession: Force direction, Defend narrow, leave furthest player, stop the switch
ORGANISATION:
Area Size - 25m x 35m (LxW)
Timings - 3 x 4 Minute Block (1 minute rest in between)
- 2 teams of 6 players each (Blue & Red) plus a magic man (Maverick)
- 4v4 with 2 players from either side in opposite corner
- Player who passes ball into corner to swap
KEY FACTORS:
- Play begins with the coach passing a ball into play
- If the ball leaves the field of play play restarts with the coach rolling a new ball into play
- Free play to start, try to gain level/ability players are at.
- Potential condition - Both teams must have at least 1 player in each box at all times.
COACHING INTERVENTIONS:
- 1st intervention - Use a walk-though to demonstrate how teams in possession can switch play from one side, to the other. Demonstrate both playing directly from one side to the other, with one pass, and by going through/around, either to the left or right. Explain that the first method is quicker, but the 2nd method is safer.
- 2nd intervention - Use a walkthrough to demonstrate how in possession teams should position themselves - Explain that when in possession, teams should have 2 players in both halves and one player 'Floating'. Further demonstrate how this makes switching play directly to the scoring boxes easier, as the team in possession have more players to aim for in these dangerous areas.
- 3rd intervention - Issue a challenge to both teams - When switching play can this be done via 1 touch passing? Explain that this will make the switch of play quicker, giving the defensive team less time to organise themselves.
- Use drive-bys with players who are slow to react in attacking transitions. Encourage these players to get into a good position really quickly, once their team regains the ball, in order to give the defenders less time to get into good defensive shape
Conditions, Challenges, Targets
1. Players must try and switch play to find target player
2. Limited touches for team (defending) to move ball quickly
3. Blue team In possession team have 8 seconds to find target player or handover possession
4. +1 point for switch of play, +3 points for switch of play using all players
Key Points
In possession:
Move the ball quickly to opposite side through midfield or miss pass & Make the pitch big - width and depth
Out of possession:
Narrow and compact, Force direction of play, Cut out passing options and prevent switch, Leave furthest player & Desire to regain possession
What ifs
if blues are sitting in how can we switch? Create angles deeper passes.
If blues are pressing - Can we move the ball quickly, pass and move always looking for angles.

- Movement off the ball - angles to create space to receive the ball(variation in the way they receive based on the opposition – Trying to utilise(8) or CB to make the switch initially
- Speed/weight of passes -
- Patience - do not force the switch. Be patient with the ball and vary the type of switch; one pass/multiple passes
