Techincal Warm Up- Foot Skills (5 mins)

Technical Foot Skill Warm Up

Warmup leaders lead their teammates through a series of techincal footskill drills.

1) Push Pull With Laces-Player pushes ball forward with laces of right foot and pulls back with sole of right foot and repeats with left

2) V with inside of foot-Player pushes ball diagonally cross body with inside of right foot and pulls back with sole of right foot and repeats with left

3) V with outside of foot-Player pushes ball diagonally away from body with outside of right foot and pulls back with sole of right foot and repeats with left

4) Triangle right foot - Player nudges ball forward diagonally across body with left foot. Uses right foot to pull the ball back with the sole and tap ball back to left foot with inside fo right foot and continues repeating.

5) Triangle left foot - Player nudges ball forward diagonally across body with right foot. Uses left foot to pull the ball back with the sole and tap ball back to right foot with inside of left foot and continues repeating.

6) The "U" - Player starts with ball in front of them under the sole of their right foot, pulls ball back, taps it over to their left foot with the instep of right foot, rolls the ball out away from bofy with the sole of left foot and puls back and taps ball back to right foot with instep of left and continues

7) The "X"- Player taps ball diagonally cross body with the laces of right foot and pulls the ball back to centre with the sole of their right foot then taps the ball diagonally cross body with laces of left foot and pulls back to centre with sole of left foot and repeats

8) Brazilian toe taps - Player taps the top of the ball with right foot then left foot, left foot continues to opposite side of ball and right foot tucks behind left leg to tap the top of ball. Then player taps the top of the ball with left foot then right foot, right foot continues to opposite side of ball and left foot tucks behind right leg to tap the top of ball. Player repeats cycle.

Inital Game-Midfield play (15 mins)

Setup:

Divide Gym into 3 parts with cones or discs. Make middle section slightly wider than the end areas.

Split group into 2 teams. 3v3 in the middle section, and 2v1 in the end sections.

Activity:

Initially Each team has their own ball. Instruction to cycle the ball from their defensive side (the area where they have two players through every player in the gym ending with their target player) Teams are not defending each other at this point. Simply focussing on moving the ball.

Progression: Remove one ball and teams are now competing against each other. Objective is to move your ball from one end zone to the other to earn a point. Ball must be played through at least one of your midfield players. Players must remain in their own zones

Coaching Points:

Movement off the ball to be available for teammate

Be aware of surroundings

Body shape to receive and play forward or protect the ball.

Main Activity (25 mins)

Setup: Position players as shown in your gym, divide it in half lengthwise. Extra players can be split at position A and 1.

Activity:

2 different passing patterns, one on each side. Ball starts with A.

Pattern A: Player A plays wide to B who plays inside to C. B then makes a run down line to receive back from C. B1 upon receipt crosses ball to player 1 who begins passing pattern on the other side. (A takes C spot, C takes B)

Pattern 1: 1 plays inside to 2 who plays outside to 3. 2 then goes on a run through the middle and receives back from 3 and dribbles to back of line A. (1 takes up 3 spot and 3 takes up 2 spot)

Progression:

Add a passive defender to each side of the gym between midfielders. Before player A or 1 plays the ball, defender moves to passively Mark either one of the midfield players to force player A or 1 to decide whether to play wide or inside which will determine the passing pattern.

Switch the patterns to the opposite side of the gym so players are opening up both left and right.

Coaching Points:

Body Shape to open up for the ball to play the direction we want to go

Effective communication (wide, middle, through, cross)

Good first touch.

Head up for decision making on where defender is.

Mobility to show for teammate
