This week we continue working on press but this time we are focusing on the connected the 1 and 2 block of pressure when to press and when to contain developing the ability to quick recognize the trigger the allow the team when and where to press too,

the attitude and character of the player is an important factor on this moment of the game

Press rondo warm up (20 mins)

Organization 4v2 with 4 goals at the end 

Instructions

  • team on possession  of the ball complete 10 passes to score 1 point
  • team defending the ball once the regain possession of the ball score on any of the 4 small goals to score 2 points

Coaching Points

  • As a defensive unit, players should look to deny penetrative passes from playing forward by providing cover and delaying the attack whilst pressing the ball and forcing mistakes by the attacking team.
  • By staying compact, defenders should look to force attackers to play specific ways by closing down their passing angles whilst attempting to intercept the ball.
  • Players should look to press the ball as individuals and as a unit whilst looking to intercept the ball to counter-attack to a mini goal quickly.

Organization

  • 2 x teams of 4 + Sweeper for each team with to defensive zones and GK

Instructions

  • (SW) who must stay in defensive third and is limited to 3 touches. All other players free to play in all field

Coaching Points

  • Working individually and as a unit the pressing triggers have to be when the opposition play a loose pass or take a poor first touch. The unit can work together to set traps in order to press
  • If the player in possession is not under and pressure it is important that the defensive unit drops off and tucks in to compact the space.
  • If the player in possession is not being pressed then the defending team can drop off and defend goal side. If there is pressure on the ball, the defenders should be on the shoulder of the attackers looking to see if they can get in front and win the ball.

Organization

  • 2 target player at the end  and 2 goal at the opposite side

  • devided the field on 2 zone 

  • 4 attackerss play against 2 defendersin one zone 4 defender in the other zone 

Instructions

  • Attackerss look to break out of the area into  to score in either of the 2 small goals. 4 defenderss attempt to defend the 2 small goals. If defenderss regain possession they play into the target players.

Coaching Points

7v7 Press game scenario (30 mins)

Organization

  • 7 v 7 reds. Black are losing 2-0 with 15 minutes to go. 

Instructions

  • Black - Can you plan how you will defend to try to regain the ball early create goals? White - Can you defend to hold on to your lead to counter attack?

Coaching Points

  • In order to defend in balance players must understand their roles within the team. Nearest player to be able to apply pressure to press line of approach (1st Defender). Support cover from teammates with appropriate angles distances (2nd Defender). Support Cover to offer balance (3rd Defender).
  • To press, players must recognize cues when the attacker is not in control of the ball, such as soft passes, big touch, weak foot, bouncing the ball, to then press and look to win the ball.
  • If there is no pressure on the ball players should drop the line reshape and wait for opportunities to engage.
