game 1
Equipment
- 8x8 yard grid
- Cones for each play to start from
- Group of balls at top of grid
Organization
- Each player receives a color. he stands at that color cone.
- When color is called, assigned player from throwing team puts both feet down and throws as far as possible across grid. both players then go to goal. player who receives ball looks to shoot quickly before defender can reach him.
- Player who does not win ball works to win it as a defender - if won shoot on goal
- After shot return ball to coach
PROGRESSION: call more than one color at a time.
Key Coaching Points
- Keep feet down on throw ins.
- set ball up wide of body for shot.
- make contact with your laces (have them touch their laces)
-lock ankle
-hit the middle of the ball
-jump and land on striking foot for more power.
- aim planted foot towards target
- plant foot next to ball when shooting (not behind or in front too much)
reminders:
"it's tough to score when you roll the ball straight ahead of you, move it out to the sides at angles".
"bring your leg back before driving it forward to shoot, just like when we throw the ball we bring our arms back then forward, we must also pull our leg back to generate energy for our shot"
