The guantlet allows players to practice 1v1 situations, focusing in dribble moves and change of pace/directions to beat defenders
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization of Session
- create one 15x15/20x20 box
- two goals/gates 2-3 yards wide on each side of box
- Divide players into four groups, one in each cone on the endlines of the box
- Defending player (1) passes ball to feet of attacking player (2) on opposite endline. Attacking player dribbles out and lookes to score by dribbling through either gate. Defending player steps out and attempts to win the ball.
- Player must dribble through to score (passing/shooting does not count
- Player with ball should look to use a possession move to get defender to go "Wrong Way"
- If defender wins it, defend can look to score as well.
- Play continues till one player scores or ball goes out of bounds. Next players in line go.
- Two groups should go at same time and players need to navigate through the chaos of another 1v1 in same space.
Coaching Points
- Dribble at an angle (not straight at defender) towards corner of the box.
- Use moves possession moves (chop, step over ect) to "wrong way" the defender
- Dribbler should change speed/direction when throwing a move.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization of Session
- set up field 20x30
Key Points
- no more than 4v4 on field. Rotate players or set up additional fields as needed.
Coaching Points
- Use moves to beat defenders on dribble
- If teammate has ball, other players should spread out (get out of the way)
- Encourage players to dribble forward at an angle when possible

Dribbling Warm up (15 mins)
Organization of Session
- Big grid (12x12/15x15) with small grid (2x2/3x3) in middle
- 2-3 players (each with a ball) at each outside rner of larger grid
- Players dribble to cone and throw a possession move (such as pull back , chop or step over), player dribbles to back to original cone after throwing the move. Players must dribble through small grid after move and avoid other players doing the same.
Advancement Option - player must dribble through small square to a different cone, throw move and dribble back to origianl cone. Player must avoid other players doing the same.
Coaching Points
- Executing the move properly is more important than going fast. Make sure players use proper technique for each move - slow them down if needed.
- Be specific as to which foot the players uses to execute the move. Get reps with both feet.
- Recommend that no more than 2-3 moves be taught in a single session.
- Players should "explode out" of the move, dribbling as fast as possible(using outside of foot)
- Players should alwasy keep ball tight and under control.
- Players need to change direction and speed to avoid other players - no crashing allowed!!
