Defensive Pressure in Off. Third vs. 4-3-3 (25 mins)

7v7+1 Defending in Offensive Third

Team is working on pressing high and and winning ball in final third; while blue team is working on building out of the back.

Objectives:

Blue Team: Back four and Three mids are working on building out and scoring in small goals or dribble across endline. Entire team has to be above yellow line for goal to count. Encourage midfield 3 rotation, OB dropping and giving angle of support, GK, bypassing OW to OB, (Create Problem for Pressing Team)

# team: tries to win the ball high and create a goal scoring opportunity.

Go over 3 different approaches:

Susie (Default & Run of Play): 9 stays high and force play to outside backs.

High Press Hailey/Heidi: 7 & 11 are pressing center backs and forcing play inside w/ the #9 cutting the field in half.

Desy for Diamond: means #9 drops on the HM defensively and #7 & #11 stay high and wide.

Scenarios: Team Builds out w/ 1 HM; team builds out with 1 HM's; Team Builds out and attacks weakside; What do our OW and OB do in the run of play? What happens when the ball is played long?

How do we press in 3-5-2 or 4-3-3? Relationship between #9 & #10 is very important at the start of Build-out and especially when ball is switched.

Coaching Points:

General Principles: Get and Stay organized to deny penetration and win the ball high up the field

Team Tactical Principles: Outnumber Defense when building out; Constant communication to get and stay organized (Intense & Specific); Defense moves as unit.

Player Characteristics: Hungry, Tenacious, Identity is that we press high to win the ball.

Counter Principle: Look to unbalance opposition by midfield rotation, supporting angles, etc.

OB pressing high in build-up.

1v1 Defending Technical Warm-up (15 mins)

1v1 Defending with Technical Warm-up.

1) Have defenders start opposite side of goal and they have to defend the shot by rounding their runs, closing down quickly and forcing them wide. Important to close down but not dive in.

* Have other grid exactly the same but mirroring so players work on defending different angles.

Coaching points: Close down quickly, low stance and and round your run. What happens if you run straight at attacker? (goal is wide open)

*Teach what goal side means!

Defenders need to be tenacious

Fitness: Shuttles or 1v1 to big cones

Shuttles:

5-10-15-20-25 and back

1-2 Ratio. x 6 runs w/ and w/out ball

1v1 to Cone. 1v1 to Goal. "Mean no offense, take no offense" Environment of grace and competition" (don't see why you can't be the best of friends off the field and compete harder than anyone, all about making each other better) If you go light on teammate you're doing her a disservice and it shows you don't care for her.

- 1 minute games

- rock paper scissors for possession.

- 1v1 to score

- defenders can't be more than 2 yards from player

- score goal by hitting cone

- winners find winners
