Checking off to Create Space to Shoot (15 mins)

Set Up:

  • Players: 12
  • Mannequins 10-15m from the goal
  • Cones approximately 5m apart

Instructions:

  • Players will be split into two groups (one each side).
  • One player from the group must start I front of the mannequin.
  • All other players will load up behind the cones with a ball each.
  • The player with the ball will play a pass to the player at the top.
  • The player at the top will play the pass back and then open up.
  • Once the player at the top has opened up the player on the cone will again play a pass.
  • When receiving the second pass the player is to take a touch with their back foot and then finish.
  • Players at the cone will move to the mannequin and players that have shot are to join the back of the line.
  • Complete a few repetitions each then switch sides.

Variation/Progression:

  • Combine both groups.

Combination to Get in Behind (20 mins)

Set Up:

  • Players: 12
  • Set up: Cones 5m apart (10-15m away from the goal)

Instructions:

  • Players are to load up equally among the four cones.

  • Balls will start with player A.
  • Player A is to play a diagonal pass to Player B.
  • Player B will lay off a pass to Player C.
  • Player C will play a pass into the run of player D.
  • Maximum TWO touches.
  • Players are to follow their pass.
  • Switch direction after 5mins.

Variation/Progression:

  • Two sides at once

  • Can you receive the ball off the marker
  • Can you play a correctly weighted pass
  • Can you lean back to strike under the ball
  • Can you slow down before shooting
  • Can you take your touch to set up a shot

Receiving a wall pass to shoot (20 mins)

Set Up:

  • Players: 12
  • Grid size: 20m x 25m

Instructions:

  • Players are to split into two even groups next to the goals on opposite sides to each other.
  • Simultaneously, players will play a pass to the coach in the middle and receive a pass back.
  • Players will have two touches to finish.
  • Players are to join the opposite line once they have shot.

Variation/Progression:

  • First time finish.

  • Can you arrive with the pass
