Long Passing Combination to Finishing
This is a long pattern play to simulate game-like scenarios. The ball starts with 1 and is played long to 2 who checks in towards it. 1 follows their pass and 2 lays it off for 1 who goes long in the air to 3 who checks into the shaded area. 3 lays it off to 4 who scores in any of the four small goals.
This drill simulates a defender/holding mid(1) playing to their attacking midfielders(2,4), getting the ball back, going long to our forward(3) who lays it back to the midfielders and they have a shot themselves. If playing against tight opposition generally playing the way you face is the best option. You can punish defenders for playing too close to you through passing patterns like this.

Stage 3 4v3
Very similar to the passing pattern we did in the last drill but now there are defenders and it is a live 4v3 with no restrictions. If the three blue defenders win the ball they can play to their target teammate near the cone and it counts as a goal for them. Red is trying to score in any of the four small goals.
The 3rd team that is off are neutrals and can be used by either team. If a team concedes a goal they swap with the outside team.
Focus on using your number advantage which means fast ball movement and passing. Don't hold the ball too long. Encourage long distance shooting from both sides and to use/combine with the neutrals as well. Any one touch goals are worth two points.

Stage 1 (20 mins)
Stage 1 Warm up
Starts with a lay off pass into a shot on the opposite side goal. The line next to the goal retrieves the ball and dribbles it back to the lay off line. Rotation goes lay off-shooter-retriever(1-2-3 in the diagram)
After 2-4 minutes change it into a 1v1 and play for 10-15 min. The drill stays the same with the same rotation but now line 2 plays a ball into the air across to 3 and its a 1v1 to goal.
Looking for proper ball striking technique to get the ball in the air. Sweeping through the ball, not trying to lift it, focusing on striking certain areas of the ball to try and achieve spin. Having the extra line to lay off a pass will help players get the ball in the air much easier and will help develop the feeling of proper ball striking.
Receiving line (3) is trying to control the ball out of the air and find a shot on goal, if the defender (2) wins it they can shoot on the opposite goal.
