Title: Build Up from GK (1/4) in 4-4 Flat-2 (15 minutes)
Aim: Put players in a setting where their role in the build up is clearly defined, give players reps / options under pressure to perform that role as we attempt to create a numerical advantage in midfield to create chances and score.
Notes: Stress how important it is to time their run effectively and accelerate into space in order to get on the ball and play forward / connect. Have courage to demand the ball + change pace / direction to get on the ball.
Activity / Organization: Ball starts with GK and is played with the appropriate weighted pass to the 4/5. She then has three options either find the 6 or 2/3 or 8's. Split the field in half to allow more reps within a game related situation (Where are they, who are they and do they play there in a game) If red win the ball they go to goal
Progression: Add another midfielder once players have had success building out to make grids 4v4
Coaching Script / Plan for failure:
- 4/5 will fail to reposition after they've played a pass to 6/8/2-3 - discuss why providing depth is important & how we can keep possession by circulating the ball across the back four. Discuss what the principal of repositioning in midfield looks like.
- Players will fail to effectively time their run, they will either be too early or will fail to sprint away from opponent - discuss how the timing and effort to sprint will give you time and space to play - demo what it means to 'hide' from your opponent
- Players will fail to turn with the ball - discuss previous activity, creating space for yourself and having a clear picture of what your going to do with the ball before you get it - demo playing 'around the corner'
- Players will fail to 'win the space in front of the opponent' - coach their ability to scan to recognize where the opponent is, how to use their body, take their first touch away from the opponent and then set or use deception

Title: Build Up 8 (4-Diamond) vs 6 (3-3) (20 minutes)
Aim: Put players in a setting where their role in our build up from defensive to middle third is clearly defined
Organization: Players play 8v6. Blue score by passing through the lines and scoring into the pug (relates to pass into the 9) or by the 2/3 providing width and getting forward. If red win the ball they go to goal. Note - put ball out for defensive throw in & discuss our options (build up versus channel)
Coaching script / Plan for failure:
- Demo - 4/5 will fail to recognize who the free player in the midfield is when our 5 steps into midfield - coach scanning, and having the confidence to lift your head and drive with the ball - read opponents body langue
- Natural stoppage - Players will fail to receive with their front foot and will attempt to first time a pass - coach being accountable and valuing the ball - finding another channel - principal small space to big space
- When it occurs - Players will fail to use deception to find the free player - coach how to use your body & eyes to fool opponent. Discuss how we 'create a gap' to find the ten if she's the free player'

Title: Play 8v8 & Set Pieces 10 & 10 minutes
Aim: Put players in a setting where their role in our build up from defensive to middle third is clearly defined.
Notes: Discuss Set Pieces Document & New corners.

Technical Turning / receiving
Title: Three Team Possession 15 minutes
Aim: Put players in a setting where receiving the ball 'side on' & 'arriving to support' and and successfully connecting with a team mate is the player action needed for success.
Activity / Organization: Three teams, small sided based on numbers, two teams vs one based on loss of possession.
Notes: Basketball players - judged on turnovers, why is our sport different? Psy-mind set
Coaching script / plan for failure:
- Players will fail to turn their body and receive on their front foot - discuss why doing this allows you to play forward, how no matter the weight or direction of pass your accountable for receiving with your front foot, move and turn quickly.
- Players will fail to scan before they receive the pass - discuss training habits and reference mental note during the warm up
- Players will fail to arrive causing the team mate to dribble out the problem. Discuss / demo what this looks like, show breaking line, arriving to demand first time pass and receiving the ball on your safe side.
