In this conditioned game we have three zones. In the defensive thirds we have a GK, two defenders and an attacker and in the midfield we have three midfielders from each team so 2v1 in defensive thirds and 3v3 in the middle.

Players can't go in other zones, they have to pass the ball to the other zone and try to score a goal. The idea of this is to see if we can recycle the ball when we need to and if we can find space by dragging players out of position. Players should not be stationary, they need to create runs to create gaps because they are all marking each other. If runs are made to receive the ball, then space is opened elsewhere which could be a better option.

This will improve;

  • Passing and receiving accuracy.
  • Passing and receiving at angles.
  • Playing from the back.
  • Movement.
  • Communication.
  • Penetration.
  • Support play.
  • Press.
  • Create space
  • Getting the balance right.
We can progress this drill by allowing GK's to go long and allowing two midfield players to go in to the attacking thirds when attacking to make it 3v2.
