Organization:
See figure. One (small) line of attackers and defenders. Add extra grids to keep lines small and short for more reps.
Instructions:
Attacking players receive a pass from attacking line and the game is live. Attackers try to score in the pugg goal for 1 goal, defenders try to win the ball back and dribble through counter goals for 3 goals. Player with the most goals wins. Rotate roles after every rep (def / att )
P) The attacker who passed can join the attack to make a 2v1. (rotate passer, to receiver, to defender)
P) Move goal and defensive lines to create different angles to defend
P) Defenders cannot leave until attacker has taken their first touch
P) Divisions with multiple grids
P) Add pugg goal for defenders to score in for 5 goals
Coaching Points:
- High and fast, low and slow (approach)
- YOU DON'T HAVE TO WIN THE BALL
- "Wrap up" attacker, make them uncomfortable with the ball
- In line with the goal first, "bend" run in order to direct attacker
- Defend on side you do not want them to go / force them into the sideline
- Cues to pressure / poke tackle (bad touch, back to you, head down)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
See figure. Four lines, each team split in two. Balls in opposite corners.
Instructions:
Players start with a quick pass across goal. Defenders must start in their own half, but are live on pass. Defenders try to win ball back and score. Each goal is worth 1 point. Winning ball in attacking half is worth 2 goals. First team to 5 goals wins.
If ball goes out, the side that it goes out on starts the attack. Continuous game.
Coaching Points:
- Communication on who is first defender (I go)
- Proper defending body shape/position on defender
- Delay, make attacker uncomfortable with the ball (wrap them up)
- Cues to press (Head down, bad pass, etc)
- When to switch to 2nd defender/1st defender (stay with man)
Progressions/Regressions:
End 3v3 or 4v4 to goal.
