Demonstration of a functional practice in attacking 1v1

Organization:
• Two channels - 30x15 yard areas
Instructions:
• Objectives in each are as follows:
• 2 groups – 4 players in each group (2 attackers & 2 defender)
- Channel 1 – Beat the player over the end line
- Channel 2 – Beat the player thru a gate
• Object to score is the same for both attackers and defender
• Service to attacking player replicates moments in a game – e.g. clearance, overlap
• Groups rotate to play in each channel
Coaching Points:
1. Commit defender
2. Observe the body position of the defender - If side on attack the front foot - If square push the ball past and accelerate
3. Timing and execution of fakes and /or faints
4. Cut into space behind defending player once beaten

60x50 yard field
• 5v5 with GK’s
Instructions:
• Players work in channels – 1v1 on the outside, 3v3 in central area
Coaching Points:
1. Coach players mindset
2. Play in three lines through central area – team shape
3. Play at speed
4. Mobility
Progressions:
• Progress to allow players to break out of areas to create numbers up

• Players are challenged to beat a central marker using a variety of dribbling techniques
• Start simple – progress to challenge the group
• Add turning techniques – ability to possess when under pressure
