Foundations (10 mins)

Foundations

20x20 area.

2 lines of players behind each starting point. The second player in line goes after the player in front of the goes past the first cone.

Round 1: no ball just different running techniques - Normal jog, sprinting, side steps, backwards etc.

Round 2: Add a ball for each player and dribble though the course - perform a move at each cone to continue forward progress.

Round 3: Add a defender in front of the mini goal who defend in a 1v1 situation after the dribbler has turn around for the last cone.

Point system round 3: 1 point for every goal scored by the attackers. 2 points every time the defender can win possession from the attacker.

Coaching Points

  • Attack the space quickly in the 1v1 moment.
  • Close control in the dribble - small touches.
  • Changing speed at the appropriate time.
  • Timing of the move to unbalance the defender.

3v2 Overload (20 mins)

3v2 / 3v3 Recovery

Players take part in a 3v2 activity with a recovery defender to make it 3v3 in a 30Lx30W area. The game begins with a pass into any of the 3 red attackers from the blue defender. Once the red player that receives the ball passes the line of cones one blue from behind the ball in the shaded area can begin their recovery run to try and make the game 3v3 instead of 3v2 in the attacker's favor. If the attackers score in the big goal, they get 2 points. If the defenders manage to steal the ball, they can score in the mini goals for 3 points.

Play for 2 minutes then switch the team roles.

Progressions

Set a time limit for the attackers to score, based upon level of play - 8-10 seconds

Coaching Points

  • Movement to unbalance the defenders and create 2v1 situations.
  • Player in possession drive to engage and commit defenders.
  • Attack at speed.
  • Decision making on the ball - pass, dribble or shoot.

3v2 - Phase of Play (20 mins)

3v2 - Phase of Play

Players will play a 3v2 activity. 30Lx25W. The game begins with the Red 1 dribbling in or passing into Red 9 who checks to receive the ball. The game is then live from that point in a 3v2 situation for the reds against the two blue defenders. If the blue team win the ball the counterattack to the opposite goal that they are defending for 2 points. Once the attack is over with a goal, dead ball or the ball in the keeper's hands, a new attack begins going in the opposite direction with all new players expect the #9 who stays in for all attacks. Play for 2mins then rotate player positions and roles.

Progression

  • Attackers have 8 seconds from the start of the attack to finish the attack.
Coaching Points
  • Create our attacking shape immediately, length, width and depth.
  • Be direct, attack and engage defenders to commit them and create space for others.
  • Speed of the attack - must be high tempo
  • Attacking runs / movement - diagonal runs, overlaps to create 2v1 situations.
  • Decision making - when to pass, dribble or shoot.

Overload Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Overload Conditioned Game

Teams will play a 3v3 mini game.  The condition is when a shot is missed by the attacking team the player that missed must wait at the cone until the next attack is completed.  The team is now attacking with a 3v2 overload.

Teams play for 4 minutes mini tournament.

Coaching Points

  • Player on the ball dribble at the opponent whilst scanning where team mate is.
  • Movement off the ball - attacking runs.
  • Engage / Commit defenders.
  • When should you change your speed and direction.
  • Can you find end product as you get close to goal.
