Activities to help muscle memory of passing and receiving

Ladder work (there will be 3 progressions of each activity in the curriculum) Ladders / Hurdles / Poles
Add competition at the end if technique allows.
1. 1 foot in each run
2. Two steps in each - forward with a LEFT foot lead.
3. Two steps in each - forward with a RIGHT foot lead.
4. Two steps in each - Lateral with a LEFT foot lead.
5. Two steps in each - Lateral with a RIGHT foot lead.
Coaching points:
- Coach proper technique
- Slowly to start with to exaggerate technique and speed up

1 v 1 to gate
A passes the ball into B. B then tries to beat C and dribble through the central gate. If the defender wins the ball, they try to dribble past the opp. endline. Ball start point should vary from left to right.
Progression :
- Defender has a higher start point (1/2 way point)
Coaching points:
- Purposeful 1st touch
- How does the defender start point / Distance vary the 1st touch
- Creativity
- Creating and exploiting space

Receiving out of the air
In pairs, A feeds the ball underhand to B who receives in the square and passes back to A. 10 reps and switch. Add check off to cone behind in between.
1. Right foot inside to receive (low throw)
2. Left foot inside to receive (low throw)
3. Right foot laces (high throw)
4. Left foot laces (high throw)
Progression :
- B shifts to either side of the cones to receive out of the air and pass back to A. Vary the feeds to have different surface of foot to receive.
Coaching points:
- Body position / Balanced
- Cushion the ball upon impact
- Inside : heel down, toe up / knee bent
- Laces : Bring foot down with flight of ball / Toe up slightly

Receiving to turn technical (15 mins)
3 player pass and receive
Player in the middle receives the ball from the outside player and then transfers it across to the opposite outside player. Repeat. 30 second per player in the middle. Add competition if needed.
Progressions / Variations
- Must receive at angle w/ back foot (both feet)
- Must receive at angle with front foot (both feet)
- Must receive square w/ laces (both feet)
- Must receive square w/ cut with inside (both feet)
Coaching points:
- Angle of body
- Selection of surface
- Body position to receive
- Small steps to be balanced
- Movement after pass
