Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition): We begin with a basic possessing drill but focused on the defensive principle of pressing and working in small units and then transition to working in a bigger unit. The final transition is into a game based scenario where the players can apply the concepts worked on earlier and markers and goals have been laid out to help them identify the desired outcomes.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions) [15 minutes]: A practice reflecting a game-like scenario, the shaded area marked with the red flat markers are the 'pressing zones'. The team in possession tries
to break down the opposition with forward passes and the team out of possession will stay compact and force the opposition wide and try to win it back in the wide areas, hence the mid-block and
pressing in the wide areas.
Progression/regressions: 1. The size of the area is changed to progress or regress the session with how well the teams are doing defensively.
2. The neutral players can be moved to the team performing poorer of the two and the other team would have a new challenge of how to play with a player less.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
1. Forced turnovers are awarded 1 point and forced turnovers in wide areas are awarded with 2 points.
2. Good communication and identifying pressing triggers are awarded with an extra point.
3. Every goal scored deducts a point from the defending team, this added psychological pressure to defend the points gained.

Basics of pressing in small units (10 mins)
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions) [5-7 minutes]: This is a Basic pressing drill aimed to help players understand the requirements of pressing such as Positioning, communication,
angles, triggers and speed.
It involves 2 parallel & identical practices where the Reds have possession and the Greens try to regain possession utilising an effective press.
Pressing triggers: Loose touch, when the ball is with a wide player near the touchline (this leads to playing in a mid-block with a press only in the wide areas).
Progression: The boundary between the 2 practices is removed and it turns into one practice where all the greens can move freely but the reds cannot leave their respective
halves.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
1. The pressing team have the objective to win the ball back within 8 passes to gain a point (the target can be amended as per the ability of the group).
2. An extra point is awarded for good communication and recognising key pressing triggers (at the coach's discretion).
