Warm Up (15 mins)

In a 45yd x 45yd area, play "4-Goal Game'. Position full size goals, GK's and servers as shown above, with 8-attackers in the center of the area in a smaller 15yd x 15yd square

i) On coaches command, servers pass a ball between goal and attackers square.

ii) Attackers look to get onto the passes quickly and shoot for goal.

iii) After each shot, attacker must reload into the small square before moving to a different goal for another shot. REPEAT for 1-minute.

iii) Rotate the attackers as servers and GK's, vice versa.

ADV, Vary the passes in front of goal; high, low, hard, soft, etc.

Coaching Points

1) Movement: Do attackers get onto the passes quickly? Body position correct?

2) Technique: Do attackers only use their favored foot? Minimal touches? Adaptable?

3) Success: Do attackers get shots on target? Score goals? Finish rebounds?

Activity One (20 mins)

Using a penalty area, set up four player lines as shown above.

i) Line 1 passes into penalty area above penalty spot.

ii) Line A attacker goes to the ball, uses an inside R-foot hook turn, faces the goal and shoots R-footed.

iii) After the shot, Line 2 passes to same area above the penalty spot.

iv) Line B attacker goes to the ball, uses an inside L-foot hook turn, faces the goal and shoots L-footed.

v) Lines 1 & A switch / Lines 2 & B switch. After 3-min, rotate to other lines.

ADV 1, After using inside hook to turn, use outside hook to turn (go back across the grain)

ADV 2, Add a defender on the corner of the 6yd box to close down attacker. Can use either hook turn or body fakes.

Coaching Points

1) Movement: Do players attack the ball quickly? Can they meet the ball at full speed? Are the shots taken quickly? After the shot, are players looking for rebounds?

2) Technique: Are players able to execute the hook turns under pressure? Is the ball kept tight to the body?

3) Execution: Is the shot on target? Does it beat the keeper? Can the attacker handle the defenders pressure?

Activity Two (25 mins)

In a 36yd x 22yd area, with big goals, play 6 v 6 using 3-teams as shown above. Position balls by both goals and with the coach.

i) Play 3-min games with NO offsides; winner stays on.

ii) Restarts (throw ins, corners, etc.) are from possession team GK. Goal scored, restart with opposing GK.

iii) Team that is off, spread around the pitch to reload balls by side of each goal if/when they go out. We are looking to keep the tempo of the game high.

Coaching Points

1) Competitiveness: Are teams working hard to win? Is transition speed good?

2) Snap Shooting: Do players identify when a shot is available? Are they willing to shoot? Are shots taken often and quickly? Rebounds followed up? Goals scored?

3) Defending from the Front: Are goal scoring chances created from defending high up the pitch? Is nobody given anytime on the ball?
