Defending in Midfield -Phase of Play

Organisation:

  • 6v7+2 neutral players
  • Blue team play a 3-1 midfield shape with 2 centre backs behind the goal waiting. 
  • Red team start play with either centre-back, they also have 2 midfielders in the middle zone and strikers in the end zone.
  • 2 neutral players play for the red team on the side of the central area.
  • The red team look to play into their strikers either through the midfield or wide neutral players. Once the ball is played the blue defenders can engage the strikers.
  • If the blue midfielders regain possession they look to score in the mini-goals.

Organisation:

  • 6v6+1 Conditioned Game
  • Both teams have 2 defenders and 1 attacker positioned as shown with 2 players waiting on the side.
  • A neutral player plays in the middle zone working with the team in possession. 
  • Play starts with either GK, the attacking team look to play into the middle neutral player, on this the attacking wide players enter the attacking area.
  • On entering the attacking zone, the attacking team have 10 seconds to shoot.
