Practical Session - Breaking Lines
Practical / Specific Practice / Breaking Lines
Mode : Possession Game
Welsh Way Principles
Understand when and how to play through, around and over the opposition.
Organisation and Size Area :
Pitch dimensions : 65 yd x 35 yd
6 v 6 + 1 common player (bib) and 2 Keepers
Playing 3 x 4 minutes with a 2 min break at the end
Both teams (Reds & Blues) to play the same formation : 2-2-1-1
Coaching the REDS only.
BLUES (opposition) are to be managed only.
Breaking LInes with the objective of getting the ball to the number 9 to have a 1 on 1 with the opposition Keeper.
The CB's (centre back's) are to stay in their boxed area. This applies to BOTH teams throughout the specific practice.
Explanation
RED team to be coached,BLUE team to be managed (opposition). Both teams are to adher to the In Possession principles but only the RED team is coached.
The RED team (IP) is to try and play through, around or over the opposition players and try and score by passing the ball to their No.9.
The REDS are to use the common player, who is restricted to 2 touches as a player to bounce the ball off.The REDS have to play through the midfield 2 + common player (3).
The teams get the ball to the No.9 who then gets into a 1 v 1 with the Keeper.Once this has happened play restarts with the Keeper (either team) who plays the ball out to his CB.
How
I will work with the REDS IP and manage the opposition. The REDS are in possession and use the common player as an extra player to play through, the common player can help create an overload in the central areas. The common player is vital to the team IP in their attempts to break lines,he creates an 'extra' player & outlet.
The common player is a No.11 who can play wide and centrally. When the REDS are out of possession they need to adher to the OP principles but I won't be coaching them, and the BLUES (opposition) need to adhere to the IP principles but I won't be coaching them.I will only manage them and give them instructions to get what I want from the session.
Challenges,Conditions and Targets
1. Each team will receive 4 points if they 'split' the opposing players and get the ball to the No.9.
2. Each team will receive 1 point for successfully playing around and getting the ball to the No.9.
3. 3 x touches in possession.
4. Teams will be awarded 5 points for a goal.
