Boys U10 defending 2v2 and 3vs2 pressure and cover

Organization:
-see diagram for equipment and set-up
-area approx. 25x20 adjust accordingly
-play is started with GK passing out to one of the 2 attackers (white)
- that is the trigger for the 3 defenders(red) to close down.
-Teams then play 2v2 to the big goal and the 2 mini-nets. Rotate the roles of the players.
Coaching Points:
-closest defender closes the ball
-other defenders shift over
-Speed of approach & angle when closing down 2. Slow down the last yard & be ready for any quick moves or tricks by opponent 3. Body shape - angled & use of arms for balance/blocking 4. Jockeying to show defenders one way 5. Acceleration to close down 6. Deceleration to slow down when approaching defender 7. Balance to be in a position to challenge for the ball 8. Agility- quick reaction.

4v4 SSG with man-to-man marking. Each player pairs up with a player from the opposite team, their responsibility when defending is to know where that player is and prevent them from scoring.
Coaching Points
1. Speed of approach & angle when closing down 2. Slow down the last yard & be ready for any quick moves or tricks by opponent 3. Body shape - angled & use of arms for balance/blocking 4. Jockeying to show defenders one way 5. Acceleration to close down 6. Deceleration to slow down when approaching defender 7. Read the play to be able to defend early 8. Balance & proprioception to be in a position to challenge for the ball 9. Feet & hip coordination 10. Agility

Activity
-Attacker red and yellow are passing the ball within their square.
-Attacker attempts to score by passing the ball through the Defender’s line(grid).
-Defending players (2) attempts to win possession of the ball and pass the ball to the coach.
-the defenders must stay in their grid and working on pressure and cover ex 1 centre player pressures, other player covers
-if ball is passed out wide #2 closet player pressures, other payer must quickly get across to cover.
-Defenders win the ball they get 2 pts
-switch out 3rd defender every minute.
-switch defending team every 5 min
