Two way game (25 mins)

Setup

  • middle of pitch split into four central zones and two wide zones to emphasize rotations and movements, all zones should be filled when we have the ball. central zone overloaded when we lose the ball. 
  • Each team is given a coach that counts their passes. 

Practice

  • no wide zones to begin. 100 pass game. first team to make 100 passes is winner.  shot on target is counted as 5 passes. goals are counted as 10 passes.

Progression(s)

  • 1. Add in wide zones. 2. Only passes in opponents half are counted, to encouraging progressive possession. 

Coaching Points

  • Attacking - Making the pitch wide and long. Controlled Possession of the ball. Intensity of passing and movement, be deliberate not passive. Creation of chances.
  • Defending - Pressing as a unit, recognise when its not on to press and be compact behind the ball before pressing/reaction to losing the ball. Counter defending when its on to immediately regain possession and break.
