Warm-up (20 mins)

Organization:

Partner and a ball

Instructions:

Toss ball to partner's foot so they can hit it back with laces.

Each partner does 10 reps on each foot.

Coaching Points:

Ready on toes to receive ball.

Ankle locked.

Strike with laces.

Follow through toward target.

Progressions:

Thigh > laces.

Unopposed (10 mins)

Organization: 1 channel= 16x8 yd. Blue cones 10 yd apart and 10 yd from tall cone. 1 ball per pair.

Instructions:

Players keep in the same pairs, set up like above, 1 ball between two.

Players are shooting their ball through the 2 tall cones and to their partner on the other side, they will then repat for 5 minutes varying the distance they shoot.

Coaching Points:

Choice of technique based upon distance, position of the GK

Angle of approach – off center

Head down at the point of contact

Non-kicking foot placed to side, slightly behind the ball

Ankle locked, toe down

Contact ball – will vary depending on target area

Contact foot – laces (instep)

Body weight forward, chest and knee over the ball at contact

Follow through landing on striking foot

Positive attitude towards shooting

Progressions:

Weaker foot.

Semi & fully (25 mins)

Organization:

1 player at lines B and C, the rest of the players behind A.

2 groups - one shooting from right, one shooting from left.

1 GK if available.

Instructions:

A passes to B, B passes to C.

C dribbles at cone, performs move/feint/cut inside and shoots on target.

Rotation: A-B-C.

Switch sides after going through A, B and C roles.

Coaching Points:

1. Observation of the target

2. Judge the speed of the ball

3. Contact on ball

4. Contact foot – laces (instep)

5. Body weight forward, chest and knee over the ball at contact

Progressions: 1. Dribble and shoot - no goalkeeper. 2. Place cones in between center of goal and post and play a game. 1 point for a goal, 2 points for a goal between cone and post.

3. Add a defender.

- Double pass + give and go.

Organization: 2 goals pushed closer together to encourage shooting. Bumper players on outside with 1 touc.

Instructions: 1 player is goalkeeper. 3 field players for each team.
