SKILL: Switching the play game, with the opportunity for the players to practice long passing in a skill related practice. Ball starts at one rectangle and the blue players will pass amongst each other before making a long pass to the neutral player in the opposite rectangle. Neutral player receives the ball and the same process is repeated with the red players. Progression: Neutral players can make the long pass, use a point system to see which team are more accurate with their long passing.
Conditions, Challenges, Targets: Can a team make 3 passes before playing to their target player? Can a player limit their touches to 2/3 touch? After a team scores 3 points for accurate long passes, they can have a defender against them to prevent them from passing.

SMALL SIDED GAME: Transition into small sided game, 6v6 with goalkeepers. 6 players in each half (3 attacking, 2 defenders and 1 goalkeeper), swapping positions every 4 minutes to give each player an opportunity to play different roles in each half of the pitch. Small goal focusing on passing of switching play to score points for their team as well as goals. After a goal, coach to restart the game themselves playing the ball in.
Conditions, Challenges, Targets: Playing through the line into each half, opportunity for the player who played the pass into the other half to follow their pass and create an overload in the next half, limit touches to players succeeding

TECHNICAL: 5 reds and one 1 neutral go to a corner of the rectangle (no more than 2 to a corner) and 5 blues plus another neutral do the same at the other rectangle. Players will pass the ball around the rectangle and follow their pass focusing on the mechanics of passing to take a touch and pass through the ball. Ensure the players follow their pass to the next cone. 1 minute working time before changing direction. Progression: Following the first change of direction, see if the players can play a 1-2 to the player at the next cone. The final change in direction, the players will play a 1-2 again but will then switch the play by passing diagonally to the player 2 cones away.
Throughout this there will be a focus on the mechanics of passing: 1) look at target 2) eye on ball 3) angle of approach 4) non-kicking foot alongside ball in a comfortable position 5) strike centre of ball with inside / outside of foot (identified area of ball) 6) firm ankle 7) follow through towards target
