Ball Mastery (5 mins)

Method:

  • Ball each. Dribbling around the area. Using all parts of the foot (6 parts).
  • Coach calls different tasks; toe taps, in between feet, turn, stop etc. 
  • Give the actions a number. e.g. Toe taps = 1, in between feet = 2, drag back with studs = 3, Leave ball and run to outside of grid, come back and get a different ball = 4. Then call number instead

Coaching Points:

  • Can the player use all parts of the boot to control ball. 
  • Use studs to stop ball quickly on the call.
  • Different types of turn - cruyf, drag back, step overs etc.
  • Player must get their head up, so they don't bang into other players.

Fun Element:

  • Call body parts, knee/head/bum/heel etc and player has to put that part of their body on the ball
  • This works as good stretch/mobility exercise

Strength Work (5 mins)

Method:

Players work in 2's

Different types of strength work;

  • Ball between 2, one person has hands on side, other has hands on top. Pull!!!
  • Bums/backs - pushing against each other
  • Shoulders - pushing against each other (change sides so they are working both shoulders)
  • Ball between 2. One has to try keep ball from the other

Coaching Points:

  • Player with ball should have 'side on' body shape, keeping ball on opposite side of player
  • Use arm to push player away
  • As opposition player tries to get ball, player with ball moves their body
  • Keep body between ball and attacker!!

Method:

Two groups of 8 players

  • A pass to B, then follow the pass
  • B moves off cone and controls with back foot, then pass to C, then follow pass
  • C dribbles back to start
  • Next set A passes to B, then B passes to D
Progression:1-2 passes OR 1 touch passes


Coaching Points:

  • Open body shape
  • Movement away from cone
  • Control using back foot
  • Good weight and accuracy of pass
  • Communication - Verbal & Non-Verbal

Method:

Two groups of 8 players

  • A pass to B, then follow the pass
  • B moves off cone and controls with back foot, then pass to C, then follow pass
  • C pass to D, then follow pass
  • D pass to E, then follow pass
  • E pass to F, then follow pass
  • F pass to G, then follow pass
  • G shoots! Then join queue
Progression 1: Change to E shoots instead of G. Can players use both feet to shoot?

Progression 2:
1-2 passes at each cone. Player plays ball in front of other player - do 1 touch if possible!

  • Movement away from cone
  • Control using back foot
  • Good weight and accuracy of pass
  • Communication - Verbal & Non-Verbal
