Drill (15 mins)

Organisation:

Area Size - 40 X 50

Equipment - 10 Balls, 20 Orange Cones, 4 Red Flat Markers (Zone 14 - Shaded Area), 6 Blue Cones (Ball Nest). 4 Red Vests, 6 Blue Vests, 1 Yellow Vest, 1 Green Vest, 1 Large Goal.

Players - 13 (Feeder in Green). Red team GK, 2 CB's, 2 CDM's (1-2-2). Blue Team Feeder, 2 CB's also feeders early on, 2 CM's, 2 ST's (2-2-2).

11 a side (Red 1-4-2-3-1) v (Blue 1-4-4-2)

Geography/Realism: Twin Screen and Defenders in and around Zone 14.

Challenges:

Red team must protect Zone 14 with a twin screen, 2 CDM's on the edge of the Zone 14. Win possession of the ball through interceptions, blocks and tackles, avoid allowing the Blue ST's receiving the ball inside Zone 14, avoid Blue players penetrating Zone 14 with passes and runs.

Conditions: The Feeder must play the ball to Blue CB positioned behind the half-way line, The CB's must pass the ball into a Blue CM, and they must proceed to play through Zone 14 however they choose. The Blue CB's can only pass and receive the ball, they cannot move into the Red Half of the pitch or join the attack.

The Red CDM's and CB's must players must position themselves on the inside shoulder of the Blue players, showing them outside, keeping the threat from the opposition to a minimum, and enabling better opportunities to win possession and intercept with ease. The Red CDM player nearest the Blue CM receiving the ball must time there run to press the player, whilst attempting to close off any angle for a pass across to the other Blue CM. This should force the player to pass the ball back to the Blue CB. The Blue CB can pass to the other CB switching the play in attempt to find altrentaive ways to pentrate Zone 14.

Progressions: Allow 1 CB to move into the attacking half.

Scoring System: Blues score 1 point for penetrating Zone 14 successfully and another point for scoring. Reds score points for interceptions, winning possession stopping opposition, and another point for passing back to the Feeder in Green.

Coaching Points:

What, How, When, Where, Who and What if.

Via: Demonstrations, recreation of scenario, practice, play live.

To effect individual and unit, on around and off the ball.

Defending key points: Distance of support, narrow shape, close off angles, support behind the play, if Red LCDM presses the Blue RCM receiving the ball and the Blue RCM can pass to the Blue LCM, the Red RCDM will press the Blue LCM on the inside shoulder to try to cut out the pass. Can the players win the ball with ease or prevent presenting the opposition any opportunities to play through Zone 14 and/or score.

SSG (15 mins)

Organisation:

Area Size - 50 X 70

Equipment - 10 Balls, 4 Orange Cones, 8 Orange Flat Markers, 4 Red Flat Markers (Zone 14 - Shaded Area), (6 Blue Cones (Ball Nest), 8 Red Vests, 8 Blue Vests, 1 Yellow Vest, 1 Green Vest, 1 Large Goal, 2 Mini Goals.

Players - 17 (9v8) (No GK for Blues, 1 Feeder in Green). Reds GK, 2 CB's, LB, RB, 2 CDM's, CAM, ST (1-4-2-1-1). Blues 2 CB's, 2 CM's, LM, RM, 2 ST's (2-4-2). No GK, target goals for Reds to score.

11 a side: Reds 1-4-2-3-1 vs Blues 1-4-4-2.

Geography/Realism: Twin Screen and Defenders in and around Zone 14.

Challenges:

Red team must protect Zone 14 with a twin screen, 2 CDM's on the edge of the Zone 14, and another CM screening the CDM's. Win possession of the ball through interceptions, blocks and tackles, avoid the Blue team successfully passing inside and through and penetrating Zone 14, avoid Blue players penetrating Zone 14 with passes and runs. In the SSG the Reds have a LB, RB to help defend the wide threat from the Blues LM and RM. The Reds have a ST to help gain points when in possession.

Conditions: The Feeder must play the ball to Blue CB positioned behind the half-way line, The CB's must pass the ball into a Blue CM, and they must proceed to play through Zone 14 however they choose. The Blue CB's can only pass and receive the ball, they cannot move into the Red Half of the pitch or join the attack unless they are rotating with a CM.

The Red must carry out the same principles taught in the Drill.

Progressions: Allow 1 CB to move into the attacking half without the CM rotating, creaing an overload to further challenge the Red team.

Scoring System: Blues score 1 point for penetrating Zone 14 successfully and another point for scoring. Reds score points for interceptions, winning possession, and another point for passing the ball into the Feeder in Green, or passing/scoring in the goals positioned relative to where a LW and RW would be in a 4-3-3 formation.

Coaching Points:

What, How, When, Where, Who and What if.

Via: Demonstrations, recreation of scenario, practice, play live.

To effect individual and unit, on around and off the ball.

Defending key points: Distance of support, narrow shape, close off angles, support behind the play, rotation if Red CAM presses the Blue CM receiving the ball and the Blue CM can pass to the other Blue CM, the Red CDM will press the Blue CM, allowing the Red CAM to drop off and cover the CDM's position rather than having to run across to follow the pass. Can the players win the ball with ease or prevent presenting the opposition any opportunities to play through Zone 14 and/or score.
