3 Zone Game (6v6/7v7) (30 mins)

Organization

-12-14 players

-see diagram for equipment and set-up

-approx. 60x40 area needed

Activity

-6v6/7v7 (with GKs) 3 Zone Game - teams are building from the back, though the zones, to attempt to score on the opposition. The ball can be advanced into the next zone by either dribbling forwards or passing forwards (passer can then join in) to a teammate. If the ball is lost, defending players must get back to their original zones.

Progressions/Variations

-if no GKs - attackers must get inside box to score

-players can pass over 2 zones (passer can then move up 1 zone, a middle player can go support the forward)

-defender can dribble through 2 zones (if you did not start with this condition)

Coaching Questions

-what are the different individual/collective demands when attacking/defending in the different zones?

-how will communication be effective in this activity?

-what will success look like in this game?
