OBJECTIVES:

Improve a teams ability to be creative in the final third.

WHO: #9 Central Striker

WHAT: Attacking phase 3 & 4 - Finishing in the final third - Technique of Receiving, dribbling, passing and shooting (finishing)

WHERE: In and around the box in the attacking half

WHEN: The attacking team is near the opponents penalty box creating scoring opportunities

WHY: To improve the #9's ability to create and score more goals

Stage 1: Warm up - Central Striker finishing (20 mins)

INTENSITY: mod-high ACTIVITY TIME: 30 secs REST: 30 secs REPS: 16

DESCRIPTION:

* Target team: #9 will play off shoulder's of one of the mannequins. #9 will check laterally to open space and receive the pass (#10) with the front foot, dribble and shoot. After the shot, #9 will finish the cross from the service from the opposite end.

Progression: repeat the process from the other side (if you have 10 plus players set up two goals)

COACHING POINTS:

1. What? Technique of Receiving: Across the body (furthest foot from the ball), foot and ball surface, first touch

2. Dribbling: Keep the ball close, change direction, after performing a move, go past the opponent quickly

3. Shooting: Non-kicking foot next to the ball, knees bent, head down, body over ball, ankle locked, strike either with the laces or the inside of the foot.

Stage 2: 5 v 5 to goal (25 mins)

INTENSITY: moderate ACTIVITY TIME: 5 mins REST: 1 min INTERVALS: 4 

DESCRIPTION:

-5v5 - Target team (Yellow): #7, #8, #9, #10, #11 - Opposition Team (Black):#1, #2, #3, #4, #5. - The Black team scores on either of the 2 counter goals.

-Goals scored by #9 are 100 points, other goals are worth 1 point. Play to 300 or 5 minutes.

Scoring Method: Goals by #9 = 100 points

- Goals assisted by #9 = 50 points

- Any goal = 10 points.

-Play to 400 points or 9 minutes
