Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization and Set Up:

  • 4 different colored cones in 5 by 5-yard squares
  • 10 yards away, another cone
  • Split into groups of 2

Aim:

  • Passing, quick sharp movements, and control.

Playing the Game:

  • The player not in the square (A) starts with the ball. He shouts a color as he passes the ball to the player in the colored square (B). Player B controls the ball, passes it back, and runs around that colored cone that was said. they return to the middle and keep doing this for 1 minute.
  • After 1 minute, they switch and do the same thing again.
  • Once both players had a turn, they switch again. This time as player A passes the ball, he shouts a color. Player B opens the body and controls the touch to take the ball to that colored cone. They dribble it around the cone, get back into the middle, and then pass it back to A. After 1 minute, they switch and do the same thing again.
  • Once both players had a turn, they switch again. This time as player A passes the ball and shouts a color, player B passes it back to A. They go to that colored cone, open up their body shape and receive the ball again at that colored cone and then pass it back (Creating a 1-2) and return back to the middle. After 1 minute, they switch and do the same thing again.

  • Once both players had a turn, they switch again. This time as player A comes a bit closer and holds the ball in their hands. They throw it in the air for player B to either volley back with either their foot or control it with their head, chest, or knee and pass it or volley it back to A and then run around the cone. After 1 minute, they switch and do the same thing again.
  • Once both players had a turn, they switch again. This time as player A comes a bit closer and holds the ball in their hands. They throw it in the air for player B who has to bring it down towards that colored cone and dribble it around, return to the middle, and pass it back to A. After 1 minute, switch and do the same thing.

Decision Making (15 mins)

Organization and Set Up:

  • Split into groups of 4 and 4 different colors.
  • Put flat mats per a passing option 10 yards apart for passing options.

Aim:

  • Making the correct decision.

Playing the Game: 

(for example, using the shaded area colors).

  • Player A starts with the ball, passes to Player B, and shouts either green or yellow. Player B receives the ball turns and needs to make a quick decision and make the right pass to the color he called. That player then passes it back to B, who turns quickly and passes it back to A. 
  • Maximum 2 touches, but you should try to use 1 unless your player B(1 to turn 1 to pass). 
  • After 1 minute, they switch until all players 4 players had a go in all 4 positions.

Progression 1:

  • Player A starts with the ball passes to Player B, and shouts either green or yellow. Player B receives the ball turns and needs to make a quick decision and make the right pass to the opposite color, he shouted. That player then passes it back to B, who turns quickly and passes it back to A.
  • Maximum 2 touches, but you should try to use 1 unless your player B (1 to turn 1 to pass).

Progression 2:

  • Please do the same thing as Progression 1, but this time the 2 players C, can switch positions as B has his back to them.
  • Maximum 2 touches, but you should try to use 1 unless your player B (1 to turn 1 to pass).
  • After 1 minute, they switch until all players 4 players had a go in all 4 positions.

Decision Making (20 mins)

 Organization and Set Up: 

  • 2x 15x15yard squares.
  • 4 goals in the corner of each square
  • Smaller squares of 3x3 yards are marked out by flat mats in the corners of each square.

Aim: 

  • To make the correct decision to get a point.

Playing the Game:  

  • The coach (Black player) passes the ball into the middle. the 2 teams battle it out to win points.
  • 2v2 passing around and trying to score a point by dribbling into any of the 3x3 yard squares made from flat mats to win a point. 
  • The winning team stays on, and 2 that lost rotates. Max 3 games in a row, then rotate.
  • After 5 minutes, progress.

Progression 1: 

  • Do the same thing, except to score a point, you have to pass it to a teammate to receive in any square and stop the ball to win a point.
  • After 5 minutes, progress.

Progression 2: 

  • Do the same thing, but this time score in one of the goals to win a point.

Shooting (20 mins)

  • 2 groups of 6.
  • A cones square of 13x13 yards around the (13-yard line as it's a 9-aside field).

Aim: 

  • Scoring a goal

Playing the Game:   

  • Player A passes to player B, player B passes it to the inside for player A to run onto and Shoot.
  • Player B gets the ball and joins the back of the other line (becoming shooter) while player A (becoming passer) takes player B's spot, and then player C/D does the same thing.
  • Use your right foot when shooting from a setup fromB, and use your left foot when shooting from a setup fromD side.

Progression 1: 

  • Player A passes to player B, player B passes it to the outside for player A to run onto and Shoot.

  • Player B gets the ball and joins the back of the other line (becoming shooter) while player A (becoming passer) takes player B's spot, and then player C/D does the same thing.
  • Use your left foot when shooting from a setup fromB, and use your right foot when shooting from a setup fromD side.
  • Encourage them to shoot across the goal, as the goalkeeper should shift across to save the shot better.
  • Maximum 2 touches, encourage them to shoot first time.
Progression 2:
  • Player A passes to player D, player D passes it to the inside for player A to run onto and Shoot.
  • Player D gets the ball and joins the back of their own line (becoming shooter) while player A (becoming passer) takes player D's spot, and then player C/B does the same thing.
  • Use your right foot when shooting from a setup from D, and use your left foot when shooting from a setup from B.
Progression 3:
  • Player A passes to player D, player D passes it diagonally in front to the inside for player A to run onto and Shoot.
  • Player D gets the ball and joins the back of their own line (becoming shooter) while player A (becoming passer) takes player D's spot, and then player C/B does the same thing.
  • Use your left foot when shooting from a setup from D, and use your right foot when shooting from a setup from B.
Progression 4:

  • The player who lays off the ball can become a defender creating a 1 on one situation.
