5v5 + 2 -- Pierce the Square
Setup:
* 5v5 + 2 possession inside a 25x25 playing area w/ a 6 yard square in the middle of the grid as shown.
*Coach on the outside of the area w/ plenty of balls directing the point of entry.
Instructions:
* Normal possession rules apply. The objective is to pierce the square w/ a pass to a teammate or Target player on the other side.
* The pass must be clean and possession must be kept for the pass to count.
* Keep track of points for each team. 3 min. games
* Points can be scord by connecting certain # of passes -- Or 5 points for playing through the square and connecting w/ teammate.
Progessions: Unlimted touches -- 2/3 touch -- 1/2 touch
Coaching Points:
* Focus on the movements off the ball and away from the square of the two Target players #10 and #6.
* Team in possession must move the ball away from the square making the playing area as BIG as possible thus making space to play through the square.
* The #10 and #6 must work off each other and find the right timing to check away and then show for the ball near the square -- Depending on how and where the play is developing.
