Black Hole Keep Away (20 mins)

Black Hole Keepaway

30 by 30 yard area, 10 by 10 Black Hole, 6 Attackers, 4 Defenders, 2 Wall Players, Half a dozen footballs.

The aim of this is game is to get players using the width. Players cannot enter/pass through the black hole.

The attackers (red) look to keep the ball away from the defenders (blue). The wall players play for the attackers but cannot enter the grid. At the start I get the players playing so they get used to the format and layout of the drill.

Once the attackers have all got the used to the ball I introduce a number of passes that equal 1 goal. This totally depends on the quality of the players you have at your disposal. Lets say this was an u9 recreational team, I would start with the attacking team having to make 4 passes to get a point and increase/decrease as you see fit. If a blue wins the ball they get a point.

After 5 minutes swap the roles.

To make this competitive, the red's who attack first are looking to get as many points as possible in 5 minutes then swap roles and see who wins. This will also keep the players motivated.
