15x15 grid goals at either end

Activity

1v1 defending. Attacker looks to score on the goal, defending looking to prevent. If defender wins the ball, they look to score on opposite goal.

Coaching Points

  • Speed and angle of approach
  • Don't jump in straight away
  • Angled stance (do not be square to the ball)
  • Jockey the attacker and deny dribbling forward
  • Look to win the ball once the attacker stops moving

1v1 Defending - Transition 1

Organization

  • 20x20 grid, with gates on each side.
  • One defender in the middle, players split up and pinnied at each gate.

Activity

Player 1 attempts to beat Player 2 and pass to opposite side (player 3) for a point. Defender (2) attempts to delay/disrupt/dispossess. Forcing attacking player out of bounds, getting them to turn their back to goal, and dispossession all equal success

If pass is successful, Player 2 Remains in grid as a defender and player 3, who just received the ball, does the same thing in opposite direction. Defender stays in grid until successful or 1 min passes.  

Once defender dispossesses, player 4 (blue) immediately begins attack to their opposite side (5). Whichever of player 1 or 3 was dispossessed must now transition to defender to win ball back.

    • Players on the goal lines

    Activity

    Transition from Attack to defense must happen immediately

    With Red Attacking (1), Blue (2) comes out to defend.

    Once 1 beats 2 and shoots, 3 immediately begins attacking toward other end. 2 must recover quick to shut down 3's attack. once 3 shoots, they transition to defender as 4 attacks goal.
