1vs1 (15 mins)

Method

1.      The defender (the player with the bib) will play the ball to the attacker (player without a bib).

2.      The attacker will receive the ball and try and dribble past the defender.

3.      The attacker will try and use a skill past the defender, whilst the defender tries to tackle them.

4.      If the attacker gets past the defender, they have to try and stop the ball in the gate.

5.      After the play has ended the players will swap roles.

Coaching Points for attacking 1v1

1.       First touch- take the touch at an angle to make the defender come off their defensive line.

2.       Now you have created the space by dragging a defender. Drive into it.

3.       Drive into it buy being creative and confident. When do you do the skill, the distance on when you do it? Use a skill move e.g., body faint, step over, or a chop.

4.       Remember face the player up don’t try and turn your back. If you do turn your back, use your arm to give you a little push off to get you into space, so you turn and face the defender again.

STEP Principle

Space- 20x10. Can be adjusted. The space is tight but big enough to the point that they can dribble around the defender if the use the coaching points given during the practise.

Same rules but now working 2vs2.

Jobs

On:

Same as detail for 1vs1

 Around:

Create space by going wide to allow a 1vs1.

Maybe make a run in behind to allow the player on the ball to dribble into the space.

When wanting to receive the player needs to create space to receive on the back foot:

Take three steps in behind to take the player away to then quickly drop in to receive on the back foot and be able to drive forward.

S- 40x30, allows a quick and smooth transition into SSG. Gives enough space for the players to be able to beat someone 1vs1 but also not too much space that it is easy. Longer than wider to allow space in behind.
