2 Square Ball Mastery (15 mins)

  • Activity Name: 2 box ball mastery
  • Activity Description: Arrange players in opposite corners. Maximum 4 per corner. 5 per corner for higher level/fast moving groups. For groups of more than 10 setup 2 areas. Make sure to put your cones far enough apart to give space to dribble- 5ft or more. One player per corner dribbles n the direction shown-  all players keep going until they return back to the start cone. Have the next one go when the player before turns the corner. Do 2-3 variations per skill. Then have a competition – for groups with 2-3 players in each corner players only go on coaches command. First player to the next corner gets a point. Next players go on the coaches command. Repeat until a player gets to a set number. For lower number groups with just 1 player in each corner make it a race all the way around the squares back to the start cone. Coach will instruct players which skill set to use. Make sure to demonstrate each different skill set.
  • Progression / Variation: Possibilities are but not limited too- 1: dribble, 2: toe taps all the way or more advanced players can do toe taps forwards for a section then rotate at the cone and do them backwards then rotate and go forwards- keep switching at each cone till they return, 3: soccer boxes all the way or more advanced can do forward backwards, 4: single cuts (inside/outside) right foot, 5: single cuts (inside/outside) left foot, 6: double cuts (outside left- inside left- outside right- inside right), 7: pull pushes with lace and sole switch feet,8: Sole rolls with both feet- if going in the direction shown players should start left foot then at the cone right foot, 9: sole roll with a toe tap with the opposite foot, 10: dribble in and then sole delay back then head to the next cone, 11: L turns. Should you need more you can add in attacking moves and/or scoops etc.
  • Coaching Points- Look to utilize every part of the foot when dribbling, lots of touches and soft touches when doing taps, boxes, cuts, pull pushes. Light and bouncy and on our toes. Don't cross feet when doing sole rolls. Any moves the touch outwards needs to be a positive direct touch toward next cone.

Counter Attacking with quick finshing. (20 mins)

  • Activity Name: Counter Attack with quick finishing. 
  • Activity Description: Play on half court. Play 2 v 2 encouraging lots of quick play. After aplayer shoots they leave the court and is replaced by a team mate- this allows for the other team a chance to counter quickly.  Have other players waiting off behind the opposition goal.  Have loads of futsal balls ready in both goals. 
  • Progression/ Variation:  Change players when the ball goes out of play, allow players to enter from next to their own goal. 3v3. 
  • Coaching points: Positive attitude to shoot. Speed of the counter. Use the sole to travelwith the ball. Quality of delivery from the GK. Secure and move the ballforwards in one touch. Exploit the far post. Different types of finishes.

Player Rotations - 3 Player (15 mins)

Activity Name: 3 Player Combos

Description: Players work on building the 3 out of the back-unopposed. Reaffirm the following combinations:-

1 - Give &Go - Fixo plays the ball to the ala, checks forwards then moves towards the ala to work a give and go.

2 - Parallel Pass - Fixo plays the ball to the ala, runs horizontally across court then makes a diagonal run behind the defender for a 'parallel pass' down the line.

3 - Fixo plays the ball then makes the horizontal run again. They then make the diagonal run but this time 'block' the defender so that the ala can come behind them and bring the ball towards the center of the court. Blocking player must be stationary when they block, with their hands by their side. Fixo should use the sole of the foot to attack the space centrally behind the ala.

4 - Fixo plays the ball and moves towards the opposite side ala, the opposite ala comes in to the middle and works the give and go with the ala on the ball. Example - Fixo passes to right side ala and moves towards the left side of the court. As the fixo moves towards the left side of the court the left side ala comes across the court towards the right side ala and works a give and go with them. The left side ala is now in the fixo position and the fixo is now in the left side ala position.

As you work through each combination  have them work through it unopposed in the defensive half then try to use this again in the attacking half 3 v 2.

Coaching Points:

- Good communication.

- Timing and angles of runs.

- Futsal technique on the ball - sole of the foot, scooping, turn and face, etc.

Final Game (20 mins)

Regular 5 v 5 - Final Game - No restrictions - Reinforce session topic.
- Encourage players to setup in a 3-1.
- Be sure to introduce players to the correct futsal positions (GK, Fixo,
Right & Left Ala, Pivot).

- Use futsal rules - 1 passback to GK, 4 second rule on sidelines, kick-
ins, corners.
