Developing central combination play (15 mins)
Developing central combination play. 2 groups of 7 or 8+ players.A square pass is played across the pitch. The central player should look to time there run from the blind side of the mannequin to receive the ball to feet from the player opposite to the ball. Once received should look to lay the ball off to the player who starts the practice who makes a pass to the player in the opposite corner of the pitch. Both players end up on the opposite side of the pitch and the practice repeats.Progression 1: A 1-2 pass is played with the player who receives the ball in the opposite corner.
Progression 2: The ball is set back to original player who plays the striker who striker to set for receiving player to play to player in opposite corner.
Progression 3: Combine 1 and 2
Cues.
Weight of pass and communication are key to the success of this practice. Players should actively engage in driving the next actions of the session.
From the central players paerspective, remaining on the blind side (opposite side to ball) is imperative and timing to drop in and play the next ball with one touch is what success looks like.
