Attacker can play back to one of the yellows but he is the only player who can score. Rotate defenders and attacker every two attacks.
Progression
Allow second yellow to attack to make 2v2
Coaching Points
- Body position of defender (side on, front foot)
- Defend on the side the ball is on (to prevent channel pass)
- Decision Making - Can i step in front? Can i get a foot on the ball? Do I need to stand up and force attacker into a wide area?
- Position of cover defender (anticipate mistake)

Defending - Central areas
Organisation

- If pass into striker is screened, yellows move the ball sideways to then try to play into striker
- Allow striker to drop deeper to receive the ball (decision making / communication for defenders)
Coaching Points
- make sure central defender on the same side of the pitch as the ball is defending on the outside of the striker to cut off channel balls
- Closest central defender anticipate pass and try to step in front and take the ball (if possible - decision making - triggers, inaccurate pass, loose touch)
- If unable to step in front, try to get a touch on the ball and midfielder pick up loose ball
- Cover position of second central defender
- Explain sometimes can't get too tight or striker may roll defender or defender will give away cheap fouls in dangerous areas.
- Central midfielder can screen pass
