Move in-line

Aim

To have the GK making a series of plyometric jumps, speed and set prior to a shot to the body and feet where we want to see the ball gathered each time.

Instructions

The GK will jump (knees to chest) over a series of hurdles, he will then have to touch a predetermined marker with his foot and then move to be in-line with the ball to receive the shot which will be to him on or off the ground. We want to see the ball gathered each time

Progression

The shot will be aimed at the coloured markers, on and off the ground

Coaching points

  • Knees must be high up to chest, NOT leaning forward too much
  • Quick sprint to marker and position
  • Forward set position & ball is secured.

What colour

AIm

To get the GK's thinking of where they need to be and how they are going to make a save.

This is putting their head under additional pressure with decisions to make prior to any shot being made.

Instructions

The GK will start in the centre of his goal and facing out. He will be given 2 colours, the 1st one he has to touch with his foot and the 2nd is where the shot will be taken from.

The GK is required to make his movement and set with a forward position for a delayed shot on goal (to ensure the GK has a good set position)

(All Rebounds are live)

Progression

The 2nd colour will be changed to a type of shot

ie

yellow = scoop save

blue = right dive

red = left dive

(The colours can also be moved around!!) - The initial instruction will be red, scoop (red, red)

Coaching points

  • Quick movements into position
  • Forward set position
  • Correct decisions are made 1st time

To have the GK making saves under the stress of fatigue

Instructions

The GK will start in the centre of his goal facing out.

On command, she will move and touch a coloured marker with her foot, she will then move to be in line with ball 1 and receive the shot. (ensure that the shot is not taken early and the GK is given the correct time to set)

The GK will then rise, move back to touch the same marker and then get in-line for ball 2,3,4,5,6

Progression

All balls will be moved to the centre and then the left.

Coaching points

Aim

To have the GK's working together and communicating in order to secure a save

Instructions

1 goal / 2 GK's

3/4 outfielders (who are not allowed into the 'D' but the ball can pass through it)

The outfielders have 1 minute to score as many goals as possible (only 1 ball can be in play at any one time)

The 2 GK's have to decide if they are full goal / zonal / defence GK etc - can they take anything from this to organise their defence depending on how a game is going?

THE GK's HAVE TO REMAIN 1 METRE APART AT ALL TIMES - communication !!!!

Coaching points

  • Communication prior to and during the exercise
  • Quick movements and reaction times to the new moving ball, do they have to cover a full goal?
  • Watching the outfielders for movement changes and speaking to each other
