SET UP:
- Progression into 3v2.
- Attackers can score in either of the 2 goals, or score by dribbling through central gate = 5 goals.
- If defenders win ball, they can score by dribbling to attackers start point.
KEY POINTS:
- WHAT IS THE BEST OPTION, TO PASS OR DRIBBLE? (WHAT WILL INFORM THIS? DEFENDERS POSITION - DEFENDER BLOCKS GOAL = PASS/ DEFENDER BLOCKS PASS = DRIBBLE)
- CAN YOU CREATE SPACE WITH DRIBBLE TO ATTACK? (IF NOT, PASS AS AN OPTION?)
- CAN I USE A TEAMMATE TO HELP GET PAST A DEFENDER?
- CAN WE MAKE TRIANGLES IN OUR POSITIONING TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PASSING OPTIONS?
- MOVEMENT OFF BALL (TO CREATE NEW TRAINGLES/ TO CREATE SPACE TO RECIEVE/ TO CREATE SPACE FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO RECIEVE)
- PATIENCE IN POSSESSION (FINDING RIGHT MOMENT TO ATTACK VERTICALLY AND AT SPEED).
POTENTIAL PROGRESSIONS:
- Central goals only.
- Reduction in pitch space.
- incentive of goal for defenders to attack in transition.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
SET UP:
- 2v1 with focus now on moving forwards/towards goal
- Focus on decision making on whether to pass or dribble (what is the best option?)
- If defender wins ball, they need to dribble to start point to score.
KEY POINTS:
- CAN I USE A TEAMMATE TO HELP GET PAST A DEFENDER?
- CAN WE MAKE TRIANGLES IN OUR POSITIONING TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PASSING OPTIONS?
- ANGLE OF SUPPORT (TO PROVIDE WIDTH AND DEPTH)
- CLEAR PASSING LANE BETWEEN PASSER AND RECIEVER
- BODY SHAPE/POSITION/ANGLE (TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD OR INTO SPACE)
- PASS COMMUNICATION (TO MOVE RECIEVER INTO SPACE/AWAY FROM PRESSURE/TOWARDS GOAL)
POTENTIAL PROGRESSIONS:
- Individual Challenges and Scenarios (Cannot Pass/ Can Only Pass)
- Change in Starting Position of Attackers.

Organization
- 3 attackers vs 2 defenders
- 1 GK
- 5x5 square at the end of the area for a recovery defender
- Balls start at the middke cone
Instructions
- The aim is for the attacking three to score quickly with forward passes and runs
- As soon as the middle player starts the attack a recovery defender can track back to make it 3vs3
- If the defenders win the ball they can clear to end the game
Coaching Points
- Speed of attack
- Positive and varied runs
- Can attacking players draw defenders out of postion
- If contained can the attackers use quick ball movement to find passing lanes
Progressions/Regressions
- If the defenders win the ball back they can look to score a point by playing into the box
- To regress the drill the recovery defender can only move on the coaches call.

Objective:Small sided game to create various attacking and defending situations.
Equipment: two(2) goals, two (2) different color cones, balls, and (2) different color bibs.
Organization:Two teams set up across from eachother, each team with half the balls. Grid size depends on age/ level/ and objective. Teams play 2v2, with aim of scoring in the large goal. When a ball goes over the endline (either for a goal or a missed shot) the team defending that end line is out, and a new group of 2 comes in, team coming in always starts with the ball. The player that missed the shot or hit the bad pass resulting in the change has to touch the goal they were shooting on before defending.
Progression:
1) If team scores, the same rotation takes place except the team that scored gets a ball played into them by their teammates waiting in line.
2) Have an all time target. (#9)
Coaching Points:
- Create passing and combination options for your teammate. - Create 2v1 situations by beating a player 1v1.
- Look to score.
- Read ball pressure.
- Head up and look.
- Use a variety of fakes and passes
- Defensive priniciples.
- Coaching points really depend on the topic for your session.

Organization:
-Two lines of equal numbers.
-10 x 15 Yard Area.
Instructions:
• All players start in a line in the center (See diagram on left)
• Player A takes a touch to either side which is the cue for all other players to move,
-player B middle player, moves opposite of player A's touch,
-player C, most advanced player, moves the same direction as player A's first touch.
• Player A, then plays a pass to the back foot of player B
• On C's first touch A becomes a passive defender and applies pressure to C.
• C beats A by combining with B using a give and go
• Rotation: A to B, B to C, C to A.
Coaching Points:
1) Quality of check
2) Communication
3) Quality of pass
4) Recieving with the back foot
5) Drive at defender's front foot
6) Keep ball close, touch on every step
7) Play late as possible with outside foot
8) Direction and weight of return pass
9) Quick movement to receive the ball back again
Progression:
- Defender is live. Play 2v1 to endlines. Keep score and play a league table format.

Two lines of players with two defenders.
Stagger cones with ball starting at forward cone and attackers about 10 yards apart
Player A plays across to Player B
Defender 1 runs out and attackers play 2 v 1
Defender cannot recover past yellow line
Defender 2 runs out and attackers again play 2 v 1 and finish with goal
Defender 2 cannot recover past red line
If defender wins the ball or attacker goes outside the zone the two attackers become the defenders
Defenders become attacker and join the back of the line
Run two groups; Progress to adding a goalkeeper at each end (use cone goals, make goalkeeper have to reach ball with ball to encourage use of individual moves -- circle take, rollover)

Positive attitude
Decision pass or dribble
Technique of pass or dribble
Combination play
