Purpose: Develop players ability to turn quickly to the outside and then upfield when the ball is rolling towards our own goal (players have been stopping the ball, backing up, and then moving toward the opponent's goal).
Set Up: Half of the filed. Two cones at the top of the "18" for lines. Coach in the middle with balls. Mini-goal wide along the touchline.
Description: Player on left of coach starts running toward half line on coach's "go." Coach rolls out the ball. Player uses the outside foot of their outside leg to push the ball wide and horizontal. Next touch is upfield toward the mini-goal for a shot. Player on right goes next. Players switch lines after each turn.
Coaching Points: 1. Can we stop the momentum of the ball with out running past it? 2. If using outside of the foot is too difficult, just focus on playing the ball horizontal and out wide. 3. Can you do a pull back to change direction?

Purpose: Similar to Phase 1, but now an opposing player is added
Set Up: Lines now begin at the touchline. Mini-goal just past half. Cone to the right of coach is on touchline. Cone to the left of coach is a few yards ahead of touchline (to give them a head start)
Description: Player to the left of coach is shooting at big goal. Player to the right of coach is shooting on mini-goal. Coach roll out ball and BOTH players make chase. Player on left is trying to quickly turn and shoot on big goal. Player on right is trying to defend, steal, then shoot on mini-goal.
Coaching Points: 1. Can we turn away from the side where the defender is? 2. Can we do a pullback to change direction even faster?

Purpose: Basic scrimmage to work on positioning with an emphasis on defenders not letting any opposing players behind them.
Coaching Points: 1. Defenders always checking to see of opponent is behind them, especially on stoppages (throw-ins, free kicks, goal kicks).
