Aim
To have the GK's dealing with ball from close in. Can they cut off the path of the ball? Are they getting into the right position? Are they moving fast enough?
We can then move to them having to deal with a high ball and outfield players from different angles of play
A lot for them to make decisions on.

To have the GK covering his near post and dealing with the cutback / cross / pass in an effective manner

The GK will start in the centre of his goal, c1 will feed the ball across the goal at various angles and the GK has decisions to make on his reaction to the ball and the players around him
Set 1: further out starting position
Progression:
Moving in closer to the goal... is the GK making more effort to secure the fast ball across?
Final set mix of angles to ensure the GK is watching them as well

Crossed paths
Aim
To be able to judge the GK's positioning in goal as the ball is being moved down the wing and across the goal
Instructions
The coach will feed the ball down the wing and it is being chased by the winger, once he gets the ball into the 'red box' he will cross/pass the ball into the box
The attacking players are to try and get to the ball and score
The GK has a number of things to consider:
GK's positioning
Flight of ball
Movement of players
Where is the ball heading to
Who is not getting the ball
Who is possibly getting the ball
Players moving in
Danger areas
GK's ability & speed
Progression
We will add in 1 defender who is to try and assist the GK to clear the ball from the box
Coaching points
* All above GK decisions
* Fast movement to his position
* Brave in front of the ball

High Ball
Aim
To see how the GK reacts to high balls played in from various positions on the park, What is his judgment like? Does he commit? Is he brave & is he right?
Instructions
The coach will play the ball high in from various outfield positions so that the GK is to judge the speed, flight etc of the ball
3 attacking players are there to try and score and 1 defender to try and move the ball away
Does the GK communicate with his defender?
Both sides to be covered
(Hand fed in if required for the junior session)
Coaching points:
* Does the GK actually have to move toward the ball or can he let his defenders deal with it
* What is the advantage to the GK dealing with the ball?
* Is the GK communicating with his defender?
