Attacking In & Around The Box (20 mins)

Method: Setup a goal inside the penalty area with a goalkeeper. Organise two teams, with the defending team set up next to the goals in pairs. The attacking team are set up on the outside of the area next to the cones in groups of three. The game begins with two defenders passing the ball out to the three attackers. As soon as they receive the ball, they must get inside the area and look to score. If they score, the next group of players then have their turn. If the defenders win possession of the ball, the pass to the next group of attackers who then begin the attack.

Coaching Points: Speed of Play: Encourage players to enter the box quickly and work towards getting their shot away straight away. If the opposition team applies pressure to the ball, players should look to move the ball quickly between them to help them to create goal scoring opportunities.

Creating Overloads: As the game begins with a 3v2 in the advantage of the attackers, they should look to try and create a2v1 whenever they can and play into overloads. Players may look to create overloads with their movement off the ball, as well as how they travel with the ball too.

Weight & Quality of Pass: Players should look to be accurate with their passes whether it is passing into the front or backfoot or space. Players should look to use firm passes to help them to move the ball quickly as they look to create goal scoring opportunities.

Finishing: Encourage players to try and finish off one or two touches throughout this game to take advantage of any goal scoring opportunities. Players should look to adjust the type of finish that they use to score as well as be prepared to finish any rebounds as well.
