Numbers up is a fun team game that has a main focus on 1v1, and 2v2s, but also on awareness, communication, teamwork, and cheering on their teammates!
Equipment and setup
Directions
The coach numbers players before the game - ideally equally matched. To begin, the coach calls out a number(s) and kicks the ball into the center of the playing area. The corresponding players from each team run to the ball and go into a 1v1/2v2 and play to goal or until the ball goes out of play. Coaches can call a 1v1/2v2 (example: "Number 2 and 3!" - players 2 & 3 on both teams run to the ball). The teams keep their score.
Coaching points
What are the options? Dribble, pass or shoot - If the player has space or no support, dribbling could be the best option. Teammates need to support and get into space to receive a pass. Is the shot available, or is someone in the way? Ensure you're asking open questions or letting the players explore.

Context to the game
1v1, 2v2, and 3v2 matchups happen all the time in soccer - this will give players practice for those moments! Also, it teaches the players to need to remain focused off the ball. Even though they're not in the immediate play, they have to be ready, whether on the other side of the field, or being ready to come on to the field.
