2v1 (15 mins)

2v1 in marked zone, defender comes in and makes a pass to an  attacker. Attackers enter the circle only by carrying ball trough gate (left/right) Defender tries to force attackers through right gate on their front stick.

Think about:

  • Body position (not flat)
  • Channel
  • Be patient
  • Try to tackle outside of the D
  • GK communicate with Defender.
  • Apply pressure and deny space-force baseline

3v2 Overload (15 mins)

1 looks to take quick long corner but A is defending on Hot Line, so 1 shallow transfers to 2 who passes to 3 out on line. 1 then gets ahead of play to baseline.

A joins defender B in playing box in a 3v2.  Can do left side too.

Think about:

  • Forcing wide
  • Body position/channel
  • Defender A not on same line as B
  • A talk to B.
  • Cannot man mark so take line to goal but still apply pressure to ball carrier
  • Be aware of where players are
  • GK talk!

Top Court Bottom Court

  • Set out a number of different 'courts' (rectangles).
  • In each there should be two players stood on opposite ends of the box. One player with the ball and one without.
  • The player with the ball (attacker) must dribble the ball under control to the opposite end of the box. The player without the ball (defender) must make a tackle and gain possession. Players swap roles each go.
  • Points are given either for the attacker getting to the other end or the defender making a tackle and making it to the opposite end.
  • At the end of 45 seconds the player with the most points moves up a court towards the top court and the other moves down a court to the bottom court. If a player loses on bottom court, they stay there. If a player wins on top court, they stay there.

Protect the Castle (15 mins)

Protect the Castle (4v4) Game 2

2 pitches per quarter with a Safety Zone (dead space) between the 2 pitches

Teams are trying to dribble or pass the ball into the oppositions Castle (goal) demarcated by a rectangle (approx 7m x 2m, change size to smaller for stronger players if needed).

Teams may not have a player inside the attacking/defending Castle for longer than 3 seconds, so they learn to move out to create space and then time their moves back in.

Players may tackle (CLEAN TACKLES) and intercept ball. If ball goes out of sidelines, free pass to the team who did not touch it last. If ball goes over the backline, free hit to the defending team in front in line with the front of the Castle and in line with where it went out

Encourage movement off the ball and scanning/looking up for passes

CHANGE IT: If getting messy, give each player a number and they may only tackle/mark their opposition with the same number
