Orientation Phase (5-6 minutes in live play)
Orient the non-coached team i.e. work in logical sequence through players to get their shape and positioning right as the ball moves
Orient the coached team with some key details for key players as the ball moves - again move through players in logical sequence
Learning Phase (10 minutes or so; coaching in live play)
Key details for key players
Revisit orientation if it isn’t correct
Topic: attackers attacking in a 9v9 with transition to defend
Objective: organized attack which allows for an organized transition to defending; using triggers to press or drop and block depending on the picture
Shape: 4-3-3 on attack, dropping to 4-5-1 defensively
Area: full pitch with corners cut out
Restarts - may show an example in the orientation phase. Otherwise natural restarts.
Key Players: F, W, AM
Ball in wide area, we want ball-side AM supporting underneath and weak-side AM sliding across to maintain distance
AM looking to drive centrally, swing in far post or play a reverse thru ball back to the W
F staying just behind the ball when it’s in wide areas to adjust run, double-movements & weak-side AM working off those double-movements
Orient 4,5, and 6 to be compact when the ball is ahead of them in possession; recognize depth & maintain distinct lines
Key points:
fluid & expansive front line on attack with more disciplined and tighter second line in midfield to respond to a loss of possession
pressing trigger - disorganized opponent upon winning the ball e.g. when they are defending a set piece
dropping into 4-5-1 with tight wingers when the opponent secures the ball and secures their shape
"all always defending" mentality to challenge, block passing lanes or track/mark opponents

Method:
5v4, players restricted to their third
White team (4) score by connecting through all 3 thirds uninterrupted
Blue team scores by playing up and back i.e. touch all thirds then back again

Method:
5v3+2 with fluid movements between halves
3 whites enter blue half to press the ball, win it and return it to their own half where they move back and make a 5v3+2 against blue.
Blue team's objective is to "beat the press" by connecting a pass from the back 3 into one of the midfield players who can combine but should try to get a shot on the opponents' mini goal to score.

Method: Attackers attacking in a 9v9 with transition to defend
Working with blue team in a GK-4-3-3 formation (full backs removed and area of the pitch trimmed as shown)
Opposing team is also in GK-4-3-3 missing their wide forwards

1v1+2 (15 mins)
Method:
1v1+2
Blues play horizontally through, connecting with both outside players = 1 pt
Whites play vertically through, connecting with both outside players = 1 pt
Progression: allow one outside player to join centrally to make a 2v1 OR allow one outside player to rotate with inside player to carry the ball and become the new central player
