Aim:
Take away passing options for the opposition and force 1 of 3 different outcomes
1. Risky pass played inside our to pressing area (red square) shape where we can win the ball back and counter
2. Allow interception on predicatable passing lane
3. Force a long ball and allow us to recover possession to attack again
Application
- 5-3-2 defensive shape
- CF screen passes into the opposition CDM
- CM and CF press fullbacks and force play inside
- Pressing trap on the CDM for our DM on balls played inside
- Opposite CM provide protection
- WB presses on switches of play

- CFs press and cover on the oppsition CBs whilst screen the ball to the CDM. Lock off one side
- Other CF tracks the CDM if they move laterally
- CM position higher and man for man press on fullback
- CDM cover spaces behind
- WBs proactive to press higher if required

When
- Ball with the wide CBs when in controlled possesion looking to play forward

- Overload the opposition CB and FB
How
- Non-Ballside CM pushes higher into the half space
- CF rotate to create a front 3

When
- Ball in central areas with CB or CDM

- One CF drop into the pocket of space

- If CB doesnt follow can conect centrally

ROLES
GK: Anything within the red box is yours. No questions.
WB's: Mark front post and forward screen - if the ball goes over your heads then you both move to occupy both posts
Blue CB: Start middle of the 6yd box. Job - Attack the ball in front of the pen spot
Black CB: Man mark their biggest player
CF (in box): Biggest CF - Position in line with the front post 4-6 yds out
CM (in box): Block Runners
CM (out of box): Counter Attack player
