Description

On this block We will like to focus on the individual foundations of the game when attacking. We will work on ball mastery multiple surface control, attacking 1v1 moves & skill application, correct technique for the first touch both receiving.

We are using this first block to:

Coaches should be identifying the below criteria in the session and breaking it down using the pillars of the game making sure you're ticking all boxes.

Please feels free to adjust the physical elements of the game to create a dynamic and Fun environment for the player

Below are some suggestions of what to consider when catering the sessions for your groups

Technical: what attribute or team concept you are asking the players to learn & How it's taught & performed breaking it down for the players

Tactical: Who the positions or player that it relates to, Where & When to use the attribute or team concept, this could be a moment or relate to a third of the field/area, or a visual or audio trigger. Why we use this attribute or team concept. this should emphasize the decision-making process & reason behind the choices to answer questions the game asks of the player

The player MVP system:

This is a staple of the program and one we use to set competition from the start of the session to the finish between each individual

The way the system works every player has 5 MVP points to start, Players can win more points by applying themselves to eacha ctivity with full commitment trying their hardest to progress, and being awarded points by the coach

Players can also win points during each activity by scoring the most points for that activity and for that they will pick up 2 MVP points from the coach.

We also use the point system to reinforce good standards like staying in bounds, not bumping into other players, and good behavior. the player can lose their points when these standards are not met. Try to use it as a motivator, not a punishment.

Once the players get used to this system they will become more responsible for their own development

Foundation Warm-up (10 mins)

  • 30 x 20
  • Every player with a ball
  • 4 Pug goals or cone goals
  • As shown on the diagram players split into 2-3 teams withpinnies
  • Players are given numbers

Instructions:

Depending on the topic and goals you want to achieve for your teams, each week you will choose from one of the foundations below to helpplayers be successful based on learning outcomes.

If you have GKs, add conditions specifically for them to allow them touse there hands to steal in the individual

and group possession activities.

Foundations Part 1 individual possession multiple surface control

Each player must complete a series of ball mastery multiple surface control. The coach or player will demonstrate the below list of movesand have the players copy for 1 minute.

Beginner

  • Dribbling/running with the ball multiple surfaces inside outside laces & sole of the foot
  • Pendulums inside of the foot Forward+ Backward
  • Toe Taps Forward+ Backward
  • Pull back

Intermediate

  • Inside cut
  • Outside cut
  • V turn
  • U turn
  • Scissors
  • Advanced
  • L turn
  • Ronaldo chop
  • Cannons
Foundations Part 2 Individual Possession Player Attributes

  • Players dribble the ball around the inside of the grid imitating a characteristic of the below professional players. (Boys and Girls)Painting the Picture of each one of the player's characteristics:

* MESSI/LLOYD: Head up looking to get into the gaps using small, quick touches with the Pinky Toe (outside of the foot).

* POGBA/HORAN: Head up to recognize when there's no gaps/space, then change of direction (12 o'clock to 6 o'clock), ball comes out ofyour feet, and then head and eyes up getting into the new space.

* RONALDO/MORGAN: Head up to see when there's a lot of space in front of you, then big touch to accelerate and get your head/eyes upand attack the space.

CHRISTIAN PULISIC/PUGH : Head up to recognize small tight spaces ,using the inside/outside surfaces of the foot to unbalancedefenders and make the space big enough to penetrate.

NEYMAR/HEATH Using multiple surfaces to manipulate the ball unbalance defenders using a move to create space for end product.

Game Instructions

  • On coaches command, a number is called out and the players with the respective number will become defender. They will try to
  • steal the ball and transition to score a goal in one of the pug goals. In the example on the diagram, #2 was called so all #2's will go todefend the opposite teams.
  • The players on the ball will gain points by keeping possession of the ball for the entire round (30 second rounds).
  • -You can also do this by shouting out the colors of the groups so the color you call will defend.

Ball mastery Warm UP (10 mins)

Foundations part 3 Group possession

  • -Same set up as foundations part 2 but now teams have one ball and they are looking to maintain possession of the ball

Ball Mastery and Dribbling Warm Up (15 mins)

Organization

  • Set up the practice as seen in the image above. Area 10x10yds, with two 1 yard square boxes to either side of players.

Instructions

  • Players face one another and are separated by a line that the player without a ball cannot cross. The player with the ball attempts to dribble the ball to marked zones A or B.

Coaching Points

  • Players need to shift the ball quickly from one foot to another to enable them to disguise where and when they will change direction. Players should be using different surfaces of their feet to enable them to manipulate the ball quickly (Inside, outside, sole, and laces).
  • Players should keep the ball close to their feet to allow the defender to not recognise which direction they intend to go. In progression encourage players to sift the ball from left to right to make them unpredictable.

Progressions

Make It Easier

  • The defender has the ball as well to give the attacker more time.

Make It More Challenging

  • When the attacker enters the box it becomes a 1v1 skill practice to the mini goal.

Animation 3 (15 mins)

Organization

  • directional small side game

Instructions

  • Team on possession of the ball score when they dribble in to their attacking end zone

Coaching Points

  • Players need to shift the ball quickly from one foot to another to allow flow and rhythm with the ball. This will encourage the players to get into good habits of using both feet. Players should make sure their head is up and their knees are slightly bent to allow them to shift the ball in different directions.
  • Players should keep the ball close to their feet so they have control of the ball. Players should take smaller touches so they have more repetition in the number of touches they take at each station.

  • Encourage players to use beat-the-player moves and skills that involve the surfaces of the foot they are using at that station.

Progressions

  • team on possession of the ball must get in to their attacking end zone before they can shoot on goal
