Warm up

Description:

Players perform the push-pull back in their half of the rectangle.

Coach shouts numbers and the players respond to them.

1. Swap sides, leave ball.

2. Swap balls, same side.

3. Run around a mini goal.

Objective:

Warm ourselves up whilst familiarising ourselves with the ball and a new skill.

Coaching points:

When you are performing the skill ensure that the ball only travels in a straight line.

If you are doing this correct you should completely change direction each time.

Progressions:

Work in pairs to provide limited pressure.

Develop second skill, pull push.

Passing and receiving

Description:

First player goes out to the right red cone. When they get there they perform a right foot pull back. They then pass the ball back to their line, before getting into an open body position to receive the ball back and play forward with their first touch. Once they have travelled past the half way point, pass over to the other team's line and join the back of it.

Objective:

Developing our passing and receiving skills, especially a positive first touch (direction and speed) and body shape.

Coaching points:

Get into position to receive early, if you can see all of the pitch you have good body shape.

Get over the half way in one touch.

Speed is important in making this practice valuable.

Concentrate on both balls, you are active in both.

If the receiver is not ready to receive, don't send them the ball.

Progressions:

Limited pressure defending after you pass it to the other line.

Set down two cones, first touch must go between them.

Set down another cone where players queue, player must move back to cone before moving onto the pass.

Players to do a roll away after wall pass (limited pressure def stays tight)

Ball-players to play what they see, wall pass or roll away.

Maximum number of touches to increase speed.

Add a wall pass after the switch.

Description:

Blue goalkeeper plays in a ball when the blue attacker moves, they take their first touch towards the mini-goal they are facing. Once past the red cone line, the blue can either score in that mini goal or perform a pull-back and attack the other mini goal.

If the white wins the ball back, they can score in the big goal.

Blue attacker then becomes the GK.

Objective:

Take a positive first touch to set you up for a decisive second.

Coaching points:

Pass to safe side.

Ensure the pass has quality and follow the player's movement.

Get your body shape ready, hips and shoulders pointing in the direction you want to travel in. Play with your in-step for more control and to ensure that you are shielding the ball.

Try to break the half way line in one touch (speed)

Progression:

Time limit of 6 seconds per ball.

Play 1v2 or 2v2.
