Warm Up (15 mins)

Warm Up - 4 from each team in the middle of the area. The other players are paired up on the outside. Ball starts on the outside and is only worked between the 2 players on the same line.

The player who passes the ball into the middle player swaps position into the box. Middle player plays the ball to the spare man on the same outside line.

Progression - Change the type of pass or change to volleys, touch & play or headers.

Progression - The player whoreceives the ball inside the square, now has to turn and quickly get to the other side to make a pass to the other players outside the grid.

Players who are not involved with the play are encouraged to perform dynamic stretching.

Component 1 - In & Out Movement (20 mins)

Option 1 IN & OUT – Strikers start close together in the center of the goal. As the passing sequence (passes 1 &2) is being competed, the Strikers move apart to create the space for them. S1 keeps moving out while S2 suddenly checks back to receive pass 3A to turn inside towards goal. If the Defender does not go with S1 and clogs up the space for S2 to turn to goal, then the Center Midfielder can play the pass 3B for S1 to turn towards goal for a scoring opportunity (4A). When doing the Right side, the Red and Blue Strikers switch.

Variations - If S1 is not able to turn or the pass is not so good he could make the pass (4B) wide to the overlapping Wide Midfielder for a cross into the box. S1 can make a second run to the second 6yd box area and S2 can make a near post run. The Wide Midfielder on the far side can get into the far post space.

Progression - Initially the defenders on S1 & S2 are passive. Then it becomes a competition between the Red & Blue Strikers to see who can score the most goals.

Component 1 - Criss Cross (20 mins)

Option 2 CRISS CROSS - Ball is bounced from Centre Midfielder to Wide Midfielder (Pass A & B), This will open the space for the ball to the passed (Pass C) to the Striker (S1) who is making a CRISS CROSS run in front of Striker S2. Striker S1 first option is to turn (D1) and have a shot on goal.

Variations - If the defender is marking Striker S1 good and the turn is not on, then Striker S1 can play the ball wide (D2) to the overlapping wide midfielder for a cross into the penalty area. Striker S1 & S2 will need to make another run into the box, S2 goes to the near post and S1 spins back and goes to the second 6yd space. The Wide Midfielder on the far side will take up the space at the far post.

Coaching Points – This time the Strikers start at least 10yds apart. Striker must be patient with their runs, S1 must make eye contact with the Centre Midfielder prior to the delivery of pass C. Striker S2 must always cross behind Striker S1 to give S1 space between the defenders and to bring the two defenders into the same space to allow S1 space to go around them on the outside. Strikers movement must be in sync and short and sharp. Striker to stay in and around the goal (no more than 10 yds wide of the goal posts).

Progression – Increase intensity, use either Striker Movements – In & Out, Criss Cross or playing wide to the

overlapping wide midfielder.

Equipment Needed - 1 GOAL, 7 RED BIBS, 7 GREEN BIBS, 2 GOALKEEPER, 12 BALLS

Component 2 - 3 Zone Game (20 mins)

Component 2 - 3 Zone Game looking at Striker Movement in a 1-4-4-2.

End Zones are 2v2, Middle Zone is a 3v3. Looking to get the pass into the Striker as soon as possible. The Midfielder who plays the ball into the Striker can go into the Final (Attacking) Third to the join the Strikers, making it a 3v2 to goal. Encourage Strikers turn towards goal and score or make a combination of each other to score. Encourage the players to work the movements from Component 1.

Rule - Midfielder who passes into the striker must go into the end zone to support the Strikers. If the sticker plays the ball wide to the overlapping Wide Midfielder then the other Wide Midfielder can enter into the End Zone to cover the far post space, as per component 1.

Coaching Points - Look to execute the plays worked on in Component 1. Striker must communicate to ensure they are executing the same movement. Be patient and execute the sequences in short and sharp movements with the anticipation of scoring. Identifies for the strikers are if during the buildup in the mid zone they are close together, they should try the IN & OUT Movement; If they are apart from each other use the CRISS CROSS movement. Remind they there is always the option to play to the overlapping Wide Midfielder and if needed use their own creativity to combine of each other or get through the defense. Ensure the Striker is not drifting wide to cross the ball.

Progression 1 – Two touch in the Final Zone

Progression 2 – Get two points if you can score in 5 passes or less.

Equipment Needed - 2 GOALS, 7 RED BIBS, 7 GREEN BIBS, 2 GOALKEEPER, 12 BALLS (6 balls around the pitch & 3 in each goal), 8 blue cones, 12 yellow cones
