game 1

Remembering the overall principle of intent for attacking - Take the best option to go forward and score.

Concentrating on using the principle of carrying the ball forward to make circle entry for  goal creation into goal scoring.

Looking for a good carry position to pass or carry depending on defenders.

Move through the 3 carry positions depending on situation this will aid fast decision making.

1. Ball carry position 1- vision, neutral position hands far apart , high elbow, stick in front, ball in line with left foot.

allowing you to change multi directional with speed and vision, creates two stick feints the pass or forward carry.

2. ball carry position 2 - allows player to watch opponents stick position and react, show an open stick face created by a high elbow and wrist. Twist the body, feet facing forward and shoulders parallel to sideline.

3. Ball carry position 3 - this provides a closed reverse stick and therefore another stick feint. -keep stick level with the ball and shield the ball by pushing down on pitch.

Start just back from  25 with a 3v2 transitioning to a 6v4 when in the 25 either left or right channel, one side at a time.

normal hockey rules apply.

attackers - working as a team move the ball forward using the carry using one or more of the ball carry positions and must end with a shot on goal or a solid pass from goal creation to goal scoring zone.

2 points for one carry position

5 points for two carry positions

10 points for three carry positions.

Progress to more players and a half pitch game with any use channel in play.

Coaching points and questions.

Re cap the three ball carry positions and how do they feel and what difference does this make to your game?

what does our shape look like when one of us is carrying the ball ?

is there good communication between everyone or just certain players, how do you improve this?

By concentrating on a good carry is another part of the game suffering?

whats your decision making like in terms of when is right time to make the pass and when to keep carrying forward?

what happens to your team mates when you carry?

what is your mindset like when carrying the ball? where is your thought process?

what are you looking at when play going on and are you aware of where the ball may end up judging the position of your team mates?

have you got space and time?
