Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): Warm up

Warm up (15 mins)

warm-up (overlap runs and finishing)

Organization:

split the group in 2 (depending on the numbers) and use both sides of the field, with 2 goalies)

3 groups of players (A, B, C)

Instructions:

The drill starts with player B passing into the path of player A who then passes to player C who moves towards the center. Once the player makes their passes, they overlap and move behind the player they have passed the ball to.

Whomever will arrive in central position before the gate, will take a shot at the net

Coaching points:

Positive first touch/ preparation touch out of feet towards the net

observe (position of goalie -head up)

accelerate to ball at an angle

eye on ball on contact

follow through the ball

part of foot

accuracy before power

Finishing patterns (40 mins)

Organization

set up as per diagram

balls, cones, pinnies, balls, manequins

Instructions:

Red pattern: Player A passes to player B who then lays the ball off to player C. Player C takes a shot at net from outside the gated area

Blue pattern: Player A makes a long pass to player C. Player C dribbles towards the manequin (or coach) and dribbles on the outside of the manequin, towards the corner. At the same time, player B makes an overlap run and receives the pass from player B. Player C finishes

All players in both patterns will follow their pass to move into the next position

-Pattern Red and Pattern Blue are taking place at the same time. When player 3 receives in Pattern Red, Player 1 will commence passing sequence in pattern BLue

After 10 minutes, have players flip sides so as they practice both patterns
